i started lifting around 17. got pretty big at around 19 and early twenties but got into other things like running and boxing.. i find at 27 i'm starting back again probably abit worse when i started at 17 (i am heavier at least) although i seem to be able to increase strength and running much faster than a decade ago. thoughts? shouldn't we hit our peak performance in our early thirties or was that something else? coz i guess some athletes retire in their thirties..

I'm 32 and in good shape - but different shape. In my late teens, I could run a lot of sprints, had very little fat and was strong for basic lifting. Now I weigh probably 10 lbs less, can do endurance a lot better, and have very functional strength/power. I see myself hitting my peak fitness within the next year probably and hopefully maintaining it for a few years.

you should be faster and have better endurance at 18, and more strength at 30. but those are just averages.

I'm 25 and in the best overall shape of my life.

After a year of strength training, I was at my strongest at 23... But I'm much leaner, and have considerably more endurance now.

My greatest level of athleticism occurred between the ages of 26-32 when I competed in centuries. I was ripped, strong, fast, and good-looking. :slayer:

I'm stronger now that in my teens. Recovery is slower though. But I think we get better with age!

I was the fittest and strongest I've ever been in my life in my mid 20's. I was a builders labourer and could comfortably carry my body weight (75kg) on my shoulder up a two storey ladder and comfortably carry 125kg of concrete blocks. I went to the gym 3 nights a week, played 2 hours of badminton a week and ran 10k on a sunday.

I'm now in my early 30's, work shifts and sit behind a desk. I weigh 90kg and can just about manage to jog for 15 minutes on a treadmill.

I seriously wish I could re-gain my former level of fitness.

I'm 27 now. My body has never looked better because I lift now, but I was much more athletic and energetic when I was 18.
