The club I plan on going to says no jeans or sportswear. Is a trench coat and loafers and chinos too much? I don't know what to wear. Chinos and cashmere Cardigan

I took my wife and her friends out for dinner in Tampa after work Friday. I was wearing my suit from work and around midnight I had counted about 20 people who asked if I owned the club. Needless to say my Italian suit was a bit much here in Tampa. But I came straight from work.

neither of your suggested items are "jeans or sportswear" so why not?

No one wore suit and I think those that did, get asked to hang up the suit before u go in. Plus I'm young in my early twenties so.

Just as "nobody puts baby in a corner"..."nobody takes my suit."

Knowing that clubs can get quite hot, and you will more often than not get a drink spill somehow, ( wet bar, drink on shoes, etc)
i recommend a lightweight navy blue suit, with a soft pinstripe . - poly blend (drink resistant)
no tie. and some brown loafers that are more comfortable, than sf "Approved" if you intend to dance a little.
in a club, with no great lighting, you will still look good.
if you take the jacket off, a nice belt and watch with the sleeves rolled twice will keep you going.

have fun!
