Very true. But my larger point remains the same. If all these style-conscious teenagers and college kids on SF (admittedly a tiny subset of all kids) acquire the same "groupthink" aesthetic, doesn't this decrease the overall clothing variations that can exist out there? Will it limit future style experimentations because baggy jeans are always bad and ed hardy shirts are always lame?

I've always believed that in order to have really good style, you need to have really bad style first. There's a learning curve involved while figuring out your individual tastes. A "blank slate" style of APC jeans and AA shirts seems, to me, to undermine this learning process.

I'm not asserting that I'm totally right here, but can someone provide a counterpoint to my thinking?

Shaming is dumb and makes people run away, while not really helping. Doesn't mean you can't be helpful though. Saying a certain item sucks for some reason is great. There are special cases of course, like ns88. If someone posts a fit (in the WAYWT thread not making another ******* thread), give them some credit if they aren't acting like pompous assholes. Notice people like danracer who came in looking pretty bad and turning out pretty decent with helpful comments (not to say that he got quite a few flames to begin with).

As far as **** threads go, honestly there needs to be some more strict moderation. Dumb threads should be locked up and moved, and idiot newbies and trolls like gqjeans need to take a month vacation. In MC I don't look at anything in the main discussion because it's almost all crap. Same in SW/D besides a couple of threads. I just see what has a bunch of pages and isn't locked yet while ignoring the rest.

Also I think people could learn a bit by looking at other places for WAYWT. Even the worst places have a few really good fits to get ideas from.

But not everyone dresses to be interesting or dynamic, you're assuming everyone dresses for your entertainment and not just simple indulgence of being well groomed.
