Thumbing through the September issues of GQ and Details today, I noticed that a lot of ads show blazers/sport coats with their lapels 'popped.' Now I haven't popped a collar since my high school Lacostes back in the day, but I think I like how most of these jackets look worn this way. Opinions?

Back in the good old days- early 60s in my college, Cornell U,
some of the campus "aesthetes" affected this style. Not me,
I was just a run-of -the mill Ivy "tweed"

If it's a collared overcoat and the weather is shite, yes. If it's a polo or collard work shirt and the hot sun is beating down in the middle of summer, yes. Otherwise, no.

In summary, pop your collar for function, not fashion.

I've done it on a tweed jacket when the weather was ****** and I didn't have an overcoat. Worked well, and I'm sure it looked natural enough.

As a deliberate look? Hell no.

In Canada the collar is not frivolously popped for a balmy 0°C but it is considered at -10°C. In Russia the collar is typically popped at -50°C, right around the temperature at which teeth typically crack when smiling.
