Obedient Sons do you like it?

Why?

What is your favorite item?

What item is the most wearable?

Do your female friends like it?

Thanks for your feedback

I used to like it a lot. Back it the day, Swaim (I think that's the guy's name) made some really interesting tees (gold balloons on a muted aqua raglan tee) and shirts with peculiar but rather interesting details like straps on the elbows. These days, I see a piece here and there (like the checked jacket last FW) that I really like, but it is not really my cuppa tea any more.

The collections are really quite wearable nowadays, but I find it lost amongst the Oaks, TheCAST, and Opening Ceremony's of the world, which these days all seem to make a lot of pieces which, for me, have just a little too much detailing, and fit just a little off. Not that there are not individual pieces I don't really like from any of these brands, but the collections (of Obedient Sons in particular, but many similar brands, in general) as a whole just haven't been doing it for me.

I should add that Obedient Sons cuts a terrific shirt. They are not cheap, but the materials of every shirt I have handled is terrific, and the cut is slim without being so tight that you are afraid of hulking out of them. In fact, I think that, for me, the cut of the shirts is better than that of (these days) more trendy brands like Band of Outsiders.

Their shirts seem to have a lot of fans. What about the other clothes? Is there anything from their current line that you want?

I like a lot of the stuff they've put out and this season's theme of "Kingstown Mutiny" is right up my alley and has so far been my favorite. The quality is very good (but is priced accordingly) - most of it's way too short for me though.

The women's line is also much more interesting.

Is there any particular piece that they design that is the iconic OS "must have"?

If not, what do you wish they made, or made more of?

Not so much. Their collections can vary quite a bit season to season, and I can't really think of any sort of signature piece that's been done.

Sorry about that! didn't mean to get weird. I'm just trying to get a better feel for this line of clothing and what makes it work or not work in a crowded marketplace.

I am into far more classic and traditional clothing. (Italian jackets, vintage Levis, English shoes). I am not in the fashion business but I enjoy reading about what it takes to launch and maintain a fashion brand. I had this discussion yesterday with a friend who kept referring to Obedient Sons. I wanted to find out more about the appeal of the brand.

A few weeks ago I was looking at this OS shirt . . .

. . . but was unsure about the sleeves that you roll up with a piece of cloth attached to the button on the sleeve. Sorry, I don't know how else to describe it but it seems like too many doo-dads. If I want my sleeves rolled up I just roll them up and don't worry about some doo hickey.

From what I have seen, Obedient Sons seems like a really interesting brand. I like the image and their clothes looks great. They are not that expensive aswell.

I'm reviving this thread because I am interested in what people think of Obedient Sons and especially the fall 2008 line:

http://men.style.com/fashion/collect...te/thumb/OSMEN

I agree that some individual pieces strike me more than any of the ensembles. The sweater/sweatshirt in #5 looks interesting (anyone know what material that would be?), as well as the boots, although they are a little hard to see.

And maybe also the sportcoat in #3, with its boxier fit -- is that someting that would probably be hard to pull off?

Their FW08 line looked very good and they played around with more luxurious fabrics and designs. I don't believe it's been shipped to stores yet though. I'd like to have some of the dinner/smoking jackets, but that won't be in the cards this year.
