What do you guys usually order? It probably depends on the situation (going out with friends, buying a girl a drink etc.,)

Whatever I'm in the mood for :p If they have a good beer selection, then whatever they have best on tap. If it's a dive, probably a gin and tonic. If it's got a reasonably priced scotch selection, then I'll have some scotch. If it's a hot day on a patio, maybe a caesar or white russian. If I'm out getting drunk and it's not a dive, long island iced tea, and dirty martinis.

@ bar alone: Rye on the rocks or Jameson rocks. Rocks make it harder for people to see whether I finished my drink so I can space things out more. I try not to drink too many high priced scotches, brandies, cognacs when not on expensed outings.

Stoli & diet or if I'm feeling inspired, vodka martini with a twist.

I avoid beer when drinking alone - too many washroom trips and losing your place at the bar.

How does a bar at a hotel differ from a club with a bunch of young people dancing? Are some drinks 'girlier' than others?

Yes. Cosmo, fruit juice + vodka, anything with malibu, blue lagoon, "martinis" which are made with flavoured vodka etc. are girly drinks. If it's brightly coloured or sweet, it's probably girly.

+1. That said, who gives a ****? Sometimes I get in the mood for a vodka cranberry. Does it look a little girly? Sure. Who cares. I'm paying for it and I'm enjoying it.

Big +1. C'mon. A can of beer for $2 at a bar. How are you going to beat that.

I only drink Guiness at bars. If the bar does not serve Guiness, I do not patronize that establishment.
