Hi all,
First time poster, long time lurker so please forgive me if I am posting this incorrectly. I have tried the search function and google searches numerous times and have either not found what I’m looking for or outdated threads mostly. I am in search of recommendations for quality yet affordable dress shirts for short men I am 5’8”. I typically wear between a 16.5-17” collar and a 33 sleeve length. For reference CT slim fit 16.5, 33 fits just about perfectly. Custom sleeve lengths tend to be difficult to find especially among higher quality shirts. I have tried CT, Brooks Brothers and the like and would like something higher quality. I have shirts from brands like Finamore, Barba and even custom shirts from CEGO that I love, however I tend to stain the collars of my shirts within 6-9 months to the point of no return and it’s difficult to continue purchasing shirts at the $200+ price point that will ultimately be useless in less than a year. Any advice on keeping collars from becoming stained so quickly would be helpful as well. Any advice on shirts that fit this criteria in the $50-$150 price point would be appreciated.

My advice for keeping collars from becoming really stained is to lightly spray some starch on the newly cleaned shirts and when I hand wash them later lightly scrub the collar stains with a dilution of bleach and water using an old soft toothbrush. Works really well.

Scrubbing your neck in the shower does wonders for this. Seriously.

Every 6 or 8 months I'll do a hand scrub of the pits and collars of my shirts with a brush and Fels Naptha or some other cleaner. I've found it to work wonders. I am not a fan of starch on my shirts as it can accelerate wear and cause stains.

Thanks for the responses! Singlechange, do you use bleach on shirts that aren’t white? I have tried the ammonia and dishsoap concoction suggested on Customshirt1.com and had minimal results on set in stains, I have been too afraid to use bleach on anything as of yet. I have definitely made an effort for the last year or so to scrub my neck with a brush in the shower to see if that would help but thus far I am still plagued by the ring around the collar. Short of hand washing and scrubbing my shirts after every or every other wear which I simply don’t have the time to keep up with for daily office wearing shirts, I’m left with trying to find some quality, yet affordable shirts with multiple sleeve lengths that I won’t be too upset if they are stained after a year or so. Would appreciate any suggestions for shirts that may fit the bill.
