I'm curious if you actually thought that there was any cause for concern here. "What i you wear it with a reddish button down" is not a complex nuance, of course it doesn't change the answer. A gray suit is an extremely neutral piece of clothing. You can wear it with reds, pinks, purples... unironically, these are all trivial choices, which is why none of the guides you read say "gray suits work with dark brown shoes UNLES YOU'RE WEARING THEM WITHOUT A TIE!" Your shirt isn't anywhere near your shoes, and with these all being classic elements... yeah, they all work together, very smoothly.

I'm not trying to be mean here, I'm not trying to make fun of you, I'm trying to let you know that you don't need to sweat this stuff. A lot of guys on the internet are really paranoid about how to dress. You don't need to be. It's okay.

Ya, that's why I asked... lol. But you gotta calm down keyboard therapist. In addition to the nuance, I read a few threads saying black shoes were better with dark grey / charcoal suits, so just getting second opinions. If you're bothered by it, let the the thread die.

"why ask" is silly tho. If u were really THAT desperate to know, then idk bro, god bless u I guess LOL.

And nah you've answered my questions in the past, you're a good guy, I am not offended

Black will always look better with dark gray than any brown. Don't get me wrong, you can make a brown work but I think black almost always pairs better with gray -- especially darker grays. Perhaps I am a traditionalist but I think black is the way to go.

As previously mentioned, dark brown shoes are perfectly acceptable to pair with a dark gray suit. To advance the conversation a bit, you might consider the formality of the occasion: In our modern culture, brown has become ubiquitous in the office and most anywhere else. Where you might opt for black oxfords would be, e.g., (some) weddings, funerals, After 5 events, or an audience with a head of state.
