Cost for this adjustment?

Hey, I had a question. How much would it cost to have the sleeves of a suit jacket shortened about 1 or 2 inches each? The sleeves come down to just where the base of my thumbs start (the big part of the palm just under the wrist) so they're just a little too long but not by much (covering a bit of my hand when rested at my side as opposed to stopping at the wrist). Also, is it normal for the thread on one of the sleeve buttons to be loose and sticking out? I had to wrap the thread around the back of the button to hide it but that's obviously not a permanent fix. I guess when I have the sleeves adjusted I can have them fix the thread too. How much would this simple job be do you think?

Thanks.

The typical price will vary depending on where you are located, but I pay $30 for sleeves shortened. They will remove the buttons and put them back on as part of the alteration, so no worries about loose threads.

Thanks for the quick response. I'm in NJ but i'd assume for a basic adjustment of just the sleeve length the price probably wouldn't vary too much from the $30 you quoted me. Thanks a bunch.

Yes, you have a good baseline now. As another example, I pay 25 for sleeve adjustments in Boston.

25-50 depending on your tailor is a good price. I wouldn't go to cheap alteration tailors, though, had horrible experience adjusting the sleeves there.

I am not really an expert on tailors, so I don't know what to look for. I mean all I can do is search for tailors in my zipcode, I have no real way of knowing how good they are.
