Depends on the ocassion the derby will be used for. For general kicking around and serious walking, a pair double soled Vass can't be beaten. For more refined outings or odd jacket day at work, EG Dover is a good choice. If the derby is used with a city suit, then one of the sleek models mentioned earlier would work.

Now I recall why I can never find monks that I like. It is because fit is less precise than lace-ups, at least for me. I like the look though.

imo , santoni has the best looking Bluchers/derby; it puts an end to the down-dressy connotation to blucher

I know a lot of you folks like the European & English shoes & I admire them as well, maybe more from a distance-undecided as to which I'd ever pick since the choices over there are so huge. I love the look of Aldens regardless of their price esp. with shell cordovan.

Although the St. Crispin is a two-eyelet, the last looks comfortable.

What have the arches to do with the number of eyelets?

Footbed and last are the deceiding factors, aren't they?
