Loden wool, woven in Tirol for centuries, is known for its resistance to cold and wetness. Our project in collaboration with Epaulet introduces Alpine Loden, a modern 18oz fabric blend of 75% merino wool and 25% nylon, woven in Italy. It's lighter, more durable, wind-resistant, and more comfortable than traditional Loden fabric. Partnering with Rochester Tailored Clothing, we offer custom garments like sportcoats, suits, and overcoats, made to your specifications. Learn more about the Loden collection here.

General Information

(from Quoddy's website)

This iconic style was invented in Norway, but perfected in Maine. The Quoddy version is built the traditional way with handsewn true moccasin construction for a glove-like fit. We start, as always, with quality USA made leathers from Horween

. Then, a hand-built leather sole and heel are stitched to the upper, not glued, so that it remains supremely flexible, and infinitely resoleable. We take it a couple of steps further by razor siping the forefoot to enhance flexibility and traction, and adding a layer of natural cork in the heel for cushioning. Finished off with a glove leather lining.

Pros: Fits true to size, strong leather scent, short break in period
Cons: High vamp may require a tongue pad for a tighter fit
The Quoddy True Penny Loafer fits true to size. For reference, I wear a 7D in Alden's Barrie last. After breaking in these loafers, I added a tongue pad to tighten up the vamp (size large from Amazon). I don't think I could have sized down to a 6.5D since my toes would touch the end of the loafer and a wider shoe would definitely mean walking out of the loafer. The width of this shoe is such that it squeezes my feet so that they don't slip out of the shoe. The leather sole and vibram heel add additional comfort. The glove leather lining is extremely comfortable with dress socks and there is an option to go sockless in the summer time. I would recommend a tongue pad for anyone out there with slightly loose fitting loafers when sizing down or getting a wide size is not possible. You won't even notice it's there after a while. After several months of wear, the leather still smells divine. I'm looking forward to wearing these for a long time.
