Money Never Sleeps sartorial critique thread

Accuracy was never the point. They know that the real wall street dresses like crap. But they're too busy building the imagery of a cutthroat world of money and power to care. I did read it before I posted and very interesting it was too. The poster of the message to which I replied and myself...

Money Never Sleeps sartorial critique thread

None of these pics is true to Wall Street. The guys who have $5b+ under management roll into your office looking like ****. And they can - I mean, what do they care? Two & twenty or three & fifty (which is what Stevie Cohen and few others can get) on $5b+ is a level of earning where you could...

If you want to wear a Slim fitting shirt... You need to wear slim fitting undershirts

The issue is the fundamental disagreement about whether an undershirt is appropriate for hot days. The hotter it is, the less likely I would be to wear one, and I live in a very hot and humid place. I think we all agree that people should go with what works for them and if no undershirt works...

Linen Shirt -- with or without an undershirt?

Would you recommend wearing it with a v-neck undershirt, or without an undershirt? If it's not going to be hot and humid, then you'll be fine without an undershirt, but don't not wear an undershirt just because the shirt is linen. I wear undershirts with linen shirts. Yesterday I was out in...

    Slubby cloth

Any idea of what kind of cloth this is? Dupioni? Do any all wools come in a slub texture? I have a few pairs of trousers the cloth of which looks very like this. They are a light wool/linen blend - cooler in summer than wool alone. I suspect the cloth in the image is something similar. TD

If you want to wear a Slim fitting shirt... You need to wear slim fitting undershirts

I'm in Shanghai, and I believe the climate is similar. I simply wear a polo and shorts in the summer, but I've been having the problem of having my boxers getting drenched, and am considering switching to briefs. With your theory re: undershirts, would it be preferable that I stick to the boxers...

If you want to wear a Slim fitting shirt... You need to wear slim fitting undershirts

Nevertheless, pretty much every guy I see in the summer in a coat and tie on a hot day is dressed exactly in the same clothes that he might wear in the fall and winter. Well, I can't deny that I see exactly the same thing and I have no sympathy for those who won't try to improve their own lot...

If you want to wear a Slim fitting shirt... You need to wear slim fitting undershirts

I don't wear undershirts. I try to keep sufficiently fit so that a simple walk in warm weather is not a life and death struggle with nature. The things you mention will help and maybe even be in themselves sufficient for, say, a pleasant summer day in England, which I would describe as being...

If you want to wear a Slim fitting shirt... You need to wear slim fitting undershirts

Yeah, really. Who wears undershirts? First of all, it is the peak of summer and the last thing I need is yet another layer. Second of all, who needs the added tucking complication of yet another layer? Thirdly, yuck. Just, yuck. If you are going to sweat out your dress shirts, maybe you need to...

The Banker Bag? Wall Streeters please chime in

+1,000 These sad creatures will save every penny they earn to be able to finally bid-snipe that badly used Hermes Birkin bag on eBay Sounds unlikely. Birkin is really for the 35+ crowd (at least outside of the US). TD

Holliday & Brown tie - how to wear?

No, really. With the right getup this tie can be rocked spectacularly. My choice, of course, would be a pindot tie, but whatever. He asked us for help and is a self-proclaimed dandy. Seeing it now in real life, it's actually pretty damn good. Thanks for suggestion - will look forward to wearing...

Holliday & Brown tie - how to wear?

as toilet paper...tell me you didn't pay for that? Come on guys, tell me what you REALLY think - don't hold back Thanks for the responses; at least they kept me amused.

Holliday & Brown tie - how to wear?

How would you wear this kind of tie? Way out there, but for the same reason I find it rather appealing... White shirt with brown suit? Medium blue suit? TD

The Japanese show you noobs how to pair up odd jackets and colored pants

I don't think it's restricted to Japan - more pronounced, likely. Exactly. There are conformists in every culture. It's just that in Japan there are so few non-conformists! TD

The Japanese show you noobs how to pair up odd jackets and colored pants

From what I know, the Japanese are taught at a young age that dressing well is a very important key to success in the business world. Perhaps even more importantly the Japanese are taught from a very early age to do as others do and not stand out, not get left behind. If everybody else is...

    Foster & Son shoe quality

Can someone follow-up on the quality of Foster & Son RTW. I just spoke with them today, and they emailed me quite a few photos of shoes, many of which, to be honest , were not all that impressive. They certainly bore no resemblance to any C&J or EG that I know. Should I be asking for something...

How many wearing before you launder your...

Underwear/socks/shirts - once Pants - depends on whether they're wool or cotton, how hot it was when I wore them, what I did, etc. Generally every 3-4 wears. +1. I can't wear shirts twice. Even if you haven't sweated much, what about the wrinkles that inevitably appear by the end of the day? TD

POLL: How Useful Are GQ and DETAILS Magazines To You?

Nuffsaid was right about the Japanese fashion magazines... They tend to be very exhaustive and extremely well-documented... Japanese men have a massive tendency towards being anally retentive and the fashion mags are the kind of thing they do well - like you say, they're exhaustive. On the other...

    Pediwear - disappointing delays, twice

They've responded to all my queries - I think you have to be a little proactive w/them. Well, this is the point - after they had given me a projected shipping date I did specifically ask them to let me know if a delay cropped up. There were significant delays in both cases. They did not tell me...

Can you tell which of these suits is $300 which is $1500?

If the pictures were a bit larger, perhaps. How close does one need to be? Doesn't this topic suggest that, for 99% of people, the difference between a $300 suit and a $1,500 suit is inconsequential? TD
