Yeah thanks, I was hoping for a somewhat exact match. I'm not sure I can bring myself to wear a black belt with brown shoes, even if the brown of the shoes is almost black and the black belt will fade to brown eventually!! Haha.- geremy

They look almost the exact same. Roughout doesn't really age. The main way you can tell they aren't new is the laces and eyelets.- geremy

My red dog rough out Cougar welt stitching looks much worse than that. Ordered through Kyle@bakers as well. I sent in pics and was told it looked ok to him. I have worn them well over the last 4 years and it certainly hasn’t caused any issues. This is is an album fresh from the box:- geremy

Another silly question. I asked Kyle @ Baker's if it possible to get 6" packers, and was told that the shortest that White's would go on packers is 8". Now I have seen some 6" packers in the wild! Is this a recent option or just accidental?- geremy

That brown dress does look unfortunate but luckily it's just the vamp. When the boots are rebuilt they can (will?) replace all of the leather in vamp with new leather.- geremy

Turns31: I'd say that it's good that you cut your losses and move on. I don't think you'd ever be happy with White's and I wouldn't advise you get another pair. Hand welted, hand sewn, and hand bottomed boots are really never going to achieve the level of finish that you prefer, especially if...- geremy

Well a lot of the distressed images are distressed rough-out, which is obviously felt-like, but you can also have the smooth side out, and then it is more like normal leather whose surface has been sanded down a bit. I don’t believe that anyone uses or clicks CXL better than Whites. Certainly not Alden (as someone mentioned) who are somewhat notorious for bad break on CXL indies.
