Why all the hate for wholecuts?
Wholecuts generally aren't classically formal, but that wasn't the OPs question. Acceptability not only depends on the actual look of the shoe, but also the social acceptance of fashion rule "disobedience". Stretching depends a lot on the leather and construction. The perfect example is a pair of soft belly leather loafers vs. shell cordovan boots; the first will stretch a ton the second hardly at all. What happened to Valentino's Marlboro Classics???
Definitely down market. In 2010 they were beside shops like Gucci, Prada, and Louis Vuitton. The materials were better and occasionally you would see exotic leathers and skins etc. Now it looks like almost completely cotton with nothing the least bit creative.- shoelove

People who hate Berluti
Reguardless of company origin, I consider Berluti Italian styling through and through. They are the best at what they do; which is not classic black oxfords (John lobb) but is the Italian patina slim sole whole cut.- shoelove

I don't know if a "softer touch/less Renomat" would make the color hold faster. What I describe above would definitely control the process much better. I am positive that most of the color loss is due to the patina coloring Berluti uses. I am willing to bet a very nice solid color shoe...- shoelove

The Renomat seams to disolve the first little layer of wax. It then gets really gooey. If you I wanted to use it again I would use a large old rag (specifically a rough old towel) and most the bottle of Renomat. I would get it dissolving then Use a clean or rather just dry section to wipe away...- shoelove
