can you tell by this pic if it is goodyear or hand welted?

In my very limited experience of owning a sub GYW shoe made in SE Asia (in the $200s), and a $500 + one made in England, the upper on the one from England does seem much "better", or stronger, should I say. I am not versed enough to describe what it means, but the SE Asian shoe (while more...

can you tell by this pic if it is goodyear or hand welted?

Hi Reidrothchild, Thank you for your perspective, and I think your explanation put my mind somewhat at ease. DFWII is likely striving for perfection at a higher end that is likely out of my reach right now, and indeed my GYW shoes do feel sturdier and more comfortable than my previously...

can you tell by this pic if it is goodyear or hand welted?

WOW!! Thank you for your very detailed answers. I looked through the videos included by Mox C as well as looked up some other "hand welted" videos and now understand what you are saying. I obviously don't have the appreciation of the implications (other than based on your very insightful...

can you tell by this pic if it is goodyear or hand welted?

DWFII, Thank you so much for the explanation. I am just getting into this whole thing and it is rather fascinating. I bought my first GYW shoe with the understanding that it was a superior form of shoe. Of course it was superior to the glued together shoes I used to wear (I would like to...

can you tell by this pic if it is goodyear or hand welted?

Hi Bengal, Does that mean GYW is equivalent to hand welting, just that it is done by machine/process patented by Mr. Goodyear?

    Bespoke Suits in HK

Jeff, haha not "sure" but definitely want to try it at some point. Perhaps I should wait for "Napoli" for when I take a trip there? (or when they visit)

    Bespoke Suits in HK

Hi Philycheese, sage words of advice. I guess I need to study a little more on what I want, but ultimately just take the leap of faith at some point.

    Bespoke Suits in HK

Hi Phillycheese. Understood and very logical answer. I guess it is inevitable that I would have to end up doing some trial and error. :) My goal was to minimize that error by getting as much info as possible, go to the one I felt was best (based on information gathered) and hope that one...

    Bespoke Suits in HK

Hi GBR. I certainly did not mean to surprise you, and apologies for my ignorance. Certainly do not mean to annoy you either. I understand that you will get more for Chan, Yao and Yu than you would for paying less at LB (you get what you pay for). My question was not really about that...

    Bespoke Suits in HK

Thanks very much for your input. Your description on the effect of use of softer? canvas definitely makes me want to look into the higher end stuff.

    Bespoke Suits in HK

I did research GBR. However, I felt like I hit a wall/ceiling on my research, and wanted to seek advice. Unfortunately, don't have friends who do bespoke - all do designer houses. One tried Jantzens and liked it, but was not attracted based on posts here. I excluded Yu and Yao, which are...

    Bespoke Suits in HK

Thanks for your comments. I do have about 5 decent OTR suits. I am moving on to/trying out bespoke to figure out if it is something I want to pursue on an ongoing basis. I am not particularly unhappy with the OTR suits I already have.

    Bespoke Suits in HK

I understand your post as saying that hand stitched canvass is superior enough to machine stitched, that it is worth paying more than double?

    Bespoke Suits in HK

You are right that the price was for basic fabrics (VBC) and as I noted, more for LP etc. I guess this is more of an experiment. I have OTR suits with firm padding etc., which fit quite well, but wanted to try out this "Napoli" style, though as you said, it may not look great on me.

    Bespoke Suits in HK

Hello all, I am a newbie who is finally looking to take the leap of faith into bespoke suits. There are certainly lots of information in this forum, and based on my research I have narrowed down my choices to WW Chan and Lee Baron (I live in HK). I purposely picked the two, as they seemed to...
