*** The official and awesome DIY thread ***

I've got (more than) a couple DIY things I've done that I'll post later, but on the note of dyeing things, do you guys think it would be possible to do an overdye on a pair of khakis to take them from that sort of bland, standard khaki color to the nice yellow-gold color that some have? Or would...

    The WAYWT Discussion Thread

I actually like the cleaner white jeans on jackm's fit. Does need the proper roll on the pants like in the lookbook, but definitely lose the black shoes/bag. Tan bucks with a really good brick sole would've been better than the desert boots.

You were saying that girl jeans have high rises, they have very low rises... And fwiw 10.5-11 is mid, not high, rise Most chick's jeans are low rise, yeah, but it's also way easier to find a higher rise in girl's jeans than guys. And yeah, I guess mid is more accurate to what I was thinking...

    Levis 501 new fit

I haven't heard what the 501 cut was like in the 80s. Any Levi's experts know? Possible he tapered them himself, too. I've heard that some of those guys did back in the day

    The WAYWT Discussion Thread

High-rise refers to a high (large) rise measurement, not the position of the crotch seam. Yes? What did I say that implied otherwise? An 10.5-11 inch rise comes to a bit below my navel, which is where i'd ideally like the waist on my jeans to sit.

    The WAYWT Discussion Thread

You don't know what high-rise means Uh, jeans with a higher rise? Seems pretty self-explanatory. Nudie High Kais, Imperial Shearers. I'm thinking specifically of about a 501 rise, so maybe that's more like mid-rise. Still, hard to find even that in a skinny jean.

Waistcoat with hoodie/sweater do or dont?

waistcoat with a t-shirt, waistcoat with a hoodie... why do people do this. Waistcoat with t-shirt is even worse though. At least with this you might not notice it at first glance, but with a t-shirt it's just so glaring.

I was trying to go for a boxy type/skinny jeans silhouette, which is a look that I totally love right now. Only problem is that you need high rise jeans to do it, and finding a decent pair of those is just impossible right now. Well, not impossible, but I am too proud to buy GIRL JEANZ. And...

What's the oldest thing you own?

A pair of "mohair" trousers and a couple mod shirts from the 60s that were good vintage store scores, but not much else I can think of. Same store has an amazing double breasted suit from the 30s. If I could afford it, I would get it even though it barely fits me. I would either lose...

    Resole Dr Martens?

Doc soles are one-piece moulded. You'd have to send them back to the factory for an entire new sole to be stitched on. I know for a fact (from DM's FAQ area) that they do not offer re-soleing at all, recommend anyone who will do so, or offer soles for sale. So we're fucked, my friend. That...

    New Balance 574 Clips

Those are really cool for NBs. I'm not usually a fan of them stylewise, I just get them for jogging because they're the best jogging shoes I've had.

Self Edge SF/NY/LA/PDX/MX - Japanese Denim & Leather, Top Notch Basics, Very Nice Jewelry + Eyewear, & More

Dry Bones has so much cool stuff that we'll never get over here. I'm really surprised the ghillies made it (though I had hoped we'd be getting the olive).

Your reasoning behind raw denim purchases.

Well the reason I considered RAW jeans was because it's a neat idea and my previous pair of H&M jeans had held up for 3 or 4 years. The reason I am now considering EXPENSIVE jeans is because that pair lasted a year or less before blowing out in the crotch. What the ****.

    Abercrombie Jacket

I wonder, if Abercrombie tried to pull a Wolverine and release an upscale line going back to its huntingwear roots with mackinaw jackets and shooting patches on the shoulders and such, would it work? I mean the company's rep as a serious retailer has been irreperably fucked by this point. They...

    Tailoring your own Clothing

I hemmed my first pair of jeans (that I actually wear) the other day. I'd say they turned out quite well, a lot better than my practice pairs. Not great or anything, but the stitching line is straight enough for me. I have a vest that I've been working on...My muslin test piece came out great...

    Giving up on indigo...

I'm going all (or mostly) black this winter/spring. I avoided black for a long time because it reminded me too much of high school, but I've been getting into it more lately. Agree with tiger though, has to be BLACK black. I don't think I'd even like contrast stitching. Minimal detailing in...

    Subway Smell

i thought this was going to be the smell of different subways/metro/underground of the cities of the world. Paris: One of the worst offenders as it smells like a musty tomb with a side order of urine and not even Louvre stop with its art can hide the fact. But there is/was an underground film...
