Edit: I use to wear a longsleeve t-shirt under my coats/jackets most of the time in winter. No layering, no more jackets and pullovers under it. Just a longslleve and a scarf plus gloves. Since buying Filson stuff from the US is much cheaper than buying in a German Store I just bought another Filson product, the small tin cloth duffle. Even with pre-paid taxes and duties I save $50 on that bag. Filson stuff is pretty expensive over here.- roots1976

@ConcreteFiction: Thanks for your reply. So, you think a size Large would be too roomy? I've fairly broad shoulders and with a chest of 43" shouldn't a size Large (44") fit as well? @ ronin2046, I'd say if you can't button all the way up, the pea coat is too small for you and you should try the next bigger size ? I mean those buttons are there for a specific purpose, aren't they? Anyway, in my opinion all this sizing down to get a slim fit is just weird. Those coats...- roots1976

The Schott 740N pea coat is insanely warm. Even though temperatures are only a few degrees above freezing point over here in Germany a t-shirt is all I wear with that coat at the moment. @dopke Yes, go with a size 36 if you take a Schott 740N. It has a very thick inner lining, making it really a very warm coat. That's maybe why peopIe say it comes very large. Actually it doesn't, it's just a thick and heavy 32oz coat. Most other pea coats posted here look like 24oz or less and...- roots1976
