What did you eat last night for dinner?

I went to Father's office in Santa Monica for the best burger in town. the burger is dry-aged beef with gruyere and maytag blue cheese and comes dressed with spicy arugula and applewood-smoked bacon and caramelized onions. also ordered a side of their sweet potato fries and topped it off with...

    24 season premiere

First two seasons were pretty good. Last season got really bad, really quick. This season looks like it has promise though and I am so glad they got rid of his whiny ass daughter although she was pretty good eye candy.

    NFL Playoffs

ahh. i did the unthinkable this weekend -- betting against my own team. knowing full well my team (the seahawks) were gonna lose this week, i decided to bet on the rams straight up to win to cover the agony of another crap season. i would've rather had a seahawks win, but a 2.5 to 1 payoff good...

    HNY everyone!

lots of ketel one and tonic some cristal and dom p too many shots from the crazy british guy playing bartender you know you had a good night when you wake up and have to look at your camera to recollect the events of the night before. it's 6pm and i still feel like a train ran me over. ugh.

    NFL Playoffs

Dude, the reason why they started enforcing the rule at all is because of the mugging that occured on that field last year. Of course they're going to enforce it.

    Fork it over

Have you read "The Man Who Ate Everything" by Jeffrey Steingarten? He's Vogue's food writer. The guy is hillarious. Anthony Bourdain's books are pretty entertaining as well if you are interested about food/dining.

    fixing an old watch

Your two-stage approach sounds great. I'm not really willing to blow the cash on the purist route and for around 200 dollars I can have a great looking watch right now. I think that will be the first thing I do when I get back to LA. Thanks. dan

    fixing an old watch

haha. i just re-read my post and pictured christopher walken giving the watch speech in pulp fiction. THREE YEARS I HAD THIS UNCOMFORTABLE HUNK OF METAL UP ******.

    fixing an old watch

Thanks for the great response. I couldn't have asked for anything better. Unfortunately any authenticity papers are long gone -- probably burnt by the commies back in Vietnam 1975. Apparently my grandfather had an even nicer watch, but it got stolen right off his wrist while he was stopped at a...

    fixing an old watch

So I'm home visiting for the holidays and my Dad notices the Omega watch I'm wearing and tells me a story about this old Rolex he used to have and wear until I at 3 years old took it and kept throwing it at the floor. It seems to have survived the throws onto the carpet, but when i progessed...

when I had the sleeves fixed about two years ago, my tailor told me tux sleeves are supposed to be longer than standard suit sleeves -- the cuff isn't supposed to show as much. can anyone elaborate or confirm this or did i get screwed?

    Christmas dinner party attire

Suit and no tie sound fine to me. Anything more would look too out of place I think. I work in the technical field and plan to wear the same thing for our Christmas party this weekend. I usually end up wearing my jacket on all night, but make sure to unbutton it if you're sitting down.

    Restaurant Recommendations

Mastro's is the best steakhouse I've been to in LA. As for sauce on a steak, the best steak I've ever had is Peter Luger's in Brooklyn which serves their steak with the most delicious sauce ever. I know, I know, it sounds horrible but don't knock it till you try it.

    Vegas

150 for an appetizer? That is quite ridiculous... what was the appetizer? On the ridiciously spendy note, anybody tried Masa in NY? I've been dying to try it ever since I read Anthony Bourdain's review. 300/person but it's supposedly worth every penny.

my friends all wanted to stick to beer, so the tab came out to be around 65/head. Steak for six, frittes for six, creamed spinach for six and two rounds of drinks each. Carnegie blows goats. I want my fifteen dollars back from that place. That day was my dream day... while heading uptown from...

    Vegas

i've had delmonico's many times. i usually stick with the ribeye medium rare now, but i've had the filet a few times rare. perhaps i just had a single bad experience at prime since i've only been there once. on another note, i went to jean-georges (he owns prime) place in new york last week and...

    Vegas

I went to Prime a few years ago, and was a bit disappointed on the quality of their filet. Delmonico's in the Venetian is much, much better. The thing is so tender you can cut it with your fork. Good call on Peter Luger's though. I was just there on Friday and probably had the steak of my life...
