The Tailors' Thread: Fit Feedback and Alteration Suggestions

Thank you for the feedback. I would note that I've gotten into powerlifting since this was made, and I have lost several inches off my waist and gained a few inches in the chest. Would that explain some of the issues? Unfortunately, I don't have any good pictures of me in it when I got it made...

The Tailors' Thread: Fit Feedback and Alteration Suggestions

I’d love to get feedback on the fit of this jacket. I commissioned it through a MTM shop in Shanghai when I lived there years ago. The fabric is a heavyweight Hardy Minnis tweed. I was thinking of getting another suit commissioned through the same shop and would appreciate feedback on how this...

    The Official-ish DC Thread

Does anyone have a suggestion for a tailor in the area to make extension tabs for trousers to wear with suspenders? Extension tabs are small pieces of cloth that allow the suspenders to sit higher on the waist (same function as a fishtail back). I would think it would be pretty simple for a tailor.

When we see someone wearing a waistcoat/vest... or in a three-piece suit, do you...

I'm assuming you are referring to Edward VII because Edward II was living during the 13th Century. Again, It is a common misconception that one must button the button bottom to be tasteful. It's not the same as a suit jacket.

When we see someone wearing a waistcoat/vest... or in a three-piece suit, do you...

It is not a rule that a person should never button the bottom of a waistcoat. It is simply a matter of how it is cut. Many waistcoats are cut for all the buttons to be buttoned. On a related note, I do notice when someone has buttoned the bottom button on a tailored jacket.

    Shanghai Tailors: Midrange

Anyone know where I can get a decent cummberbund and bowtie in Shanghai?

    Shanghai Tailors: Midrange

I haven't gotten anything new from C&G since January. Has the price really gone up that much this year?

The Suits of Spectre (2015), the latest Bond film

I don't think this is "Bond", I would bet money that the peak lapel suit in Rome is a disguise. Similar to the kilt in OHMSS. It's too much of a stylistic break from everything else we have seen DC in as Bond. The suit seen in Mexico City will probably be the model Bond wears in the movie...

The Suits of Spectre (2015), the latest Bond film

Craig's suits in QOS were some of the best since Connery. The casual wear was also great with the Harrington jacket and the Steve McQueen invoking shawl collar cardigan. The Dinner jacket was also one of the better ones Bond ever wore. It was a classic midnight blue shawl collar with pagoda...

    Suitsupply NYC

I have been to the Shanghai store and the associates spoke English. I doubt you will have any problems since English is probably a pre-requiste for getting a job a suitsupply since its such an international brand and English in the world's lingua franca.

    Shanghai Tailors: Midrange

Agreed. Email Amy, she is very helpful and will send you a price list. I haven't gotten a shirt made by them yet but from what I've seen at their offices, they are very good quality and they carry a wide range of shirting fabrics. Also, you can either have the shirt machine made or hand made...

Unfunded Liabilities: a/k/a The Cloth Thread

This looks great. Someone put a Barbera brown houndstooth overcoat fabric up for sale last week on this thread. That would be a badass coat.

    Introduce yourself.

Hello, I have been getting into men's clothing for the past year and have absorbed a lot of information through this forum and from other resources. I'm in my early 20's. I am from the US but right now I am living and working in Shanghai. Last year I worked in a men's clothing store and that...

Unfunded Liabilities: a/k/a The Cloth Thread

So would some variant of a black/brown houndstooth work better? Also, does scale matter? I feel like a smaller pattern SC would be quicker to clash with shirts.

Unfunded Liabilities: a/k/a The Cloth Thread

Why is houndstooth considered ill-advised? I have noticed there is not a lot of love for the pattern around these parts and I wonder why. It seems like a classic staple. Is it the black/white coloring is difficult to wear with other things?
