What is the proper fit for leather loafers?

I finally ordered a pair of Harvard loafers from Ben Silver. As soon as I got one of them out of its sleeve, I was appalled and crestfallen at the inferior quality of the finish. I remember that when I first tried a pair of Aldens, I was so enchanted with the look of the shoe that it took me a...

    Art Deco.

I did a search for threads with "art deco" in the title and found this old one---started in 2008 and dormant since 2016! So I don't expect to get much discussion going, but nonetheless, here are a couple of photos of the one room of my house that I did in deco style: the powder room! (There are...

What is the proper fit for leather loafers?

For decades, before I started upgrading my wardrobe, I wore penny loafers at the low end of the price scale very comfortably: Dexter, Bass, Cole-Haan, and Sebago. These were all priced under $100 a pair and never gave me any trouble. But since I began to be more selective about my clothing and...

    Quality of Ace Marks Shoes

I ordered my first pair of Ace Marks shoes—and in all likelihood my last. They arrived with a visible scrape in the finish; and not in some inconspicuous place but right in the middle of the toe, where you can't possibly miss it. But, apparently, whoever had the responsibility of putting this...

HOF: What Are You Wearing Right Now - Part IV (starting May 2014)

I agree with you about the shirt. The fact is that I like this shirt, but it is not a good choice for wear with a summer palette. But why no tie? Is it because of the suede shoes?

HOF: What Are You Wearing Right Now - Part IV (starting May 2014)

Ghurka trousers by Corrado; silk-and-wool sport coat by Spier and Mackay; tie by Graffeo; shirt (slightly big in the collar) by Uniqlo; shoes by Allen Edmonds.

You have to love that bow tie. The color and pattern seem very "Ivy League" to me. I like to wear them, but I'm afraid that they are a risky choice for someone of less than average height, as I am. My late father wore them frequently and well (and gave me my first lesson in tying one), but he...

HOF: What Are You Wearing Right Now - Part IV (starting May 2014)

I'm not sure that I'm up to standard for this thread, but it doesn't say anywhere, as far as I know, that one has to be wearing a suit or a sport coat. Here is a casual weekend outfit in what I think of as a fairly bold, though I hope not disharmonious, combination of colors. I am taking...

    Lightweight summer trousers

Linen, if there is no need for the formality of wool. Fresco wool, if formality is needed. Cotton twill only if atmospheric conditions are not very warm or muggy. The fact that cotton is poor at keeping you warm in winter does not mean that it is good at keeping you cool in summer. It depends...

Shoe trees : are they really needed?

I planted a shoe tree but it never bore fruit.

I don't understand that. What does "tts" mean?

Paying for a trip to another city where I can try on loafers would cost much more than the loafers themselves; so I am confined to buying them on line. These are among the unfortunate consequences of living in a city (Seattle) where elegance of dress is almost unknown.

Thanks. I'm glad to hear from somebody! I can send the shoe back to the seller from whom I bought it (the Shoe Mart) and get a replacement in a narrower size sent to me. Does the Aberdeen last run wide? It's funny that Alden, or whoever is the source of such information, says that it fits true...

Topic: the fit of the Alden 684 full-strap cordovan loafer (Aberdeen last) I have not read every post in this thread but I did read the first few pages, including the post near the beginning about the fit of Alden shoes on different lasts. I ordinarily wear a size 10D in lace-up shoes, size 9...

    Popovers?

I got one from Pini Parma. I'm okay with the look, but the shirt is a pain to pull on and off. The alternative is to have one cut full enough to go over your head and shoulders easily, but then you're wearing a baggy shirt, which is not a look that I like.
