Shoe trees and arch supports, help!

Crumpled newspaper. (Do I repeat myself?)

Americans, do you prefer single or double vent?

Ventless. Keep hands out of pockets.

    White socks

I wear white sweatsox with penny loafers/desert boots and chinos. Always have. No complaints. (So far!)

colors that actually do go better w/ black shoes than brown.

It seems to me that a few color combinations (e.g., red-on-black/grey glen plaid) require black shoes. In fact, the British Army notwithstanding, I'm hardly ever comfortable with red-***-brown in any of its permutations. Pink and brown, too, seem a bit of a stretch.

Do manufacturer trees prevent creasing more effectively?

acidicboy, You're right. No one listens. No one cares. I've got to get a life! Mike

Do manufacturer trees prevent creasing more effectively?

On every measure (save appearance) a crumpled-up sports page is superior to any shoe tree (including bespoke at $400 a pop).

What is your opinion of this Corneliani Sport Coat?

A sportcoat so conservative that it could almost be orphaned from a two piece suit. Almost any slacks will go with this jacket. If gray, they should be either a good deal lighter or somewhat darker. Either way, appropriate for academic or casual business wear (not, IMHO, for investment banker...

    Pocket Squares

Thank you, Alan C. I always read your posts with interest. BTW, who is your new (to me) avatar? Wolcott Gibbs? Eugene O'Neill? Randall Jarrell? Best, Mike

    Pocket Squares

IMHO, silk pocket squares should always have some "puff." (Points can peek out, if you like, from behind the puff.) For a rich apearance, do not unfold the square all the way before puffing. In other words, work with a double thickness of silk. Go ahead and twist the square. Just be sure to...

    Tie solutions

Both of my rotating Sharper Image racks have been operating flawlessly, fully loaded, for years. Are you sure yours is properly mounted (e.g., level)? If so, I would return the faulty item to one of the B&M Sharper Image stores. (There's one on Burlingame Avenue here in the mid-SF Peninsula.)

Suit jackets - do you wear them buttoned or unbuttoned?

Buttoned. (Especially DBs--late-night talk show hosts notwithstanding.)

    New York "clubby" stores

Is it me, or do posts on shopping-related topics often seem to be imbued with resentment toward the implied dress code? In other words, am I the only person who likes to dress up to go shopping? After all, what better place is there to show off one's duds than a haberdashery? And is it any...
