Take it from me, they're sweet. The looked a dull charcoal grey when I bought them (which I loved) but after a light coat of the RW all natural boot paste ( Formerly all natural leather conditioner) they are a nice dark matte black. It looks like it is just a little high spot on the inside front of the heel. A little walking use should wear it down easily. s the leather breaks in, the tongue should lie flatter. A little conditioner of your choice could probably speed it up.- DCBoarder

It is very easy to replace just the heel and quite common. My cobbler is the authorized repair shop for our local Red wings stores . He charges $15-20 for a pair of new heels. I have had the sole and heels replaced on several Beckmans and they turned out great.- DCBoarder
