This wonderful bag is made by a local Lithuanian artisan Kęstutis Cibulis (CK - Odos gaminiai).
Its is completely handmade, or more importantly - handstitched (saddle stitch, no sewing machine - meaning the stitches are a lot more durable, and when damaged, the bag doesn't come apart).
Materials used:
1) Leather - Italian vegetable tanned (Pelle Conciata al Vegetale in Toscana); Dakota line, by the tannery - Conceria La Perla Azzurra. Main body is 2.5mm (6 oz), belt straps and bottom is 3,2mm (8 oz). This leather is compared with Buttero, but is less susceptible to marking (more durable).
2) Hardware: everything is solid brass, except the frame which is stainless steel with solid brass coating. The frame needs to be steel, for more durability. All hardware is European.
3) Thread - 100% waxed polyester - the strongest thread, with added water resistance;
Features:
1) Removable belt straps - yes, the two belt coming around the bag are removable and usable as a belt.
2) Shoulder strap - made from the same leather.
3) Two side and internal pockets.
4) Unlined, the flesh side of the leather has a very smooth feel, similar to suede.
5) Measurements: 56 x 35 x 28 cm (length x height x width);
6) Hand waxed leather, burnished edges.
About the price - the bag is one of a kind, completely handmade; the materials are of the highest quality; the bag took 2 weeks to fully complete (over 80 hours of work). For comparison, Swaine Adeney offers a similar gladstone bag for 5500 pounds.
