Proper Cloth - Official Affiliate Thread

I have to agree. They've done really well with my shirts, but fumbled badly with trousers and jackets. I'd give them another shot if they were local to me (DC Metro Area), but I'm not going to mail things back and forth when I have other good options here.

I'll second this - the pens are fashion accessories at best. Buy one if you like the way it looks in your pocket, but let it stay there.

I got a few MTM shirts and a pair of MTM pants from Sid Mashburn in Georgetown, and I was underwhelmed, TBH. This was before Covid, though, so things may have improved, and maybe they will be better with a tux.

Anyone have any experience with Hickey Freeman suits since their manufacturing moved to Mexico last year? I was thinking of getting a tux from them, but I'm worried that the quality may not be what it once was. Thank you!

I tried the Kamakura MTM shirts a couple of times, but with a 17.5 in neck, I'm just outside the range of their ability to fit me comfortably. The shirts ended up tight in some places, loose in others.

I used to write a page a day in a journal, and I kept up that pace for several years, but lately I only manage about a page a month. I still use my "desert island pen" when I can (a Pilot Custom 743 with a Falcon nib, bought from Tokyo Pen Shop Quill), and it still feels great.

I agree, there's a point at which "collecting your favorites" becomes "accumulating more stuff", and at that point it's not fun anymore.

Ruthie's All Day is a great little place in Arlington that's very friendly for families with kids.

The Inn at Little Washington is worth it to try once. Nothing is ever perfect, and your taste is always a variable, but they're consistently excellent.

I've had good luck with getting sweaters fixed at Edna's Cleaners on Rockville Pike. Address: 1061 Rockville Pike, Rockville, MD 20852

I'll second that. IMO the three main Japanese brands, Pilot, Sailor, and Platinum, make the highest-quality fountain pens. Which one is "best" depends on how they feel to you. Personally, the Pilot Custom 74 fits me perfectly, but others will swear by the Platinum 3776 or the Sailor Pro Gear. I...

It's not one of the traditional European pen manufacturers, like Mont Blanc or Waterman, but that doesn't mean that Scriveiner pens are necessarily better or worse. Scriveiner uses brass in their pen bodies, which makes them feel heavier. This isn't unusual - other pen companies also use brass...

Good idea - Waterman makes good pens. With rollerball pens, look-and-feel is everything, so try whatever strikes your fancy. I have a higher tolerance for inky fingers than others do, so I don't mind if a fountain pen leaks a little. That being said, not all fountain pens leak, unless you're...

Fahrney's Pens is a good store if you're downtown. Also, if you're near Columbia, MD, check out The Pen Boutique: https://www.penboutique.com/ Both stores have excellent selections, helpful and knowledgeable staff, and will allow you to try out any pen you like. Mont Blanc has the most...

Hello everyone! I'm fairly new -- been lurking for a while, but haven't posted anything here yet. I'm starting to assemble a few excellent things in my wardrobe. I haven't settled on one particular brand or designer, and I hunt for things that look good on me (the fit is most important)...
