Subway is our go-to on road trips. Unless there’s a Buc-ee’s, obviously…

My BIL and SIL always get various sub type sandwiches for road trips and my wife and I always make fun of them. Between the shredded lettuce and inevitable liquid that drips out of a sub, I don't see how it is a road trip food but it seems many people do it.

The only thing close to a liquid I put on mine is mustard, and I skip the lettuce and put spinach on. It’s just reasonably quick food that isn’t a burger.

View attachment 2185625 Crazy ass storm blew through Houston around 6:15pm local time with winds strong enough to be a cat 1 hurricane. My neighborhood looks like a war zone now with huge parts of Houston with no power. Pictures from my street and neighbor’s backyard. View attachment 2185621 View attachment 2185623

I was coming here to post my complaint that the fancy grocery store by my gym was closed when I stopped there a bit ago because a crew dropped a tree limb on a power line cutting their electricity and I was hibbeldy because I wasn't able to get my tiny overpriced bottle of sparling cucumber water, but I guess your situation is pretty bad too.

would you ever put rice in a sandwich ? or potatoes ? if I were arguing this for the taco place i'd appeal to fillings .

Do potato chips count?

When I was in the Marines they'd occasionally bring us pre-made bagged lunches if we couldn't make it to the chowhall for whatever reason. They always included a sandwich and a bag of chips and I'd see guys put their chips on their sandwiches. They were almost always from NYC or NJ and I always assumed it was some East Coast trash that I was too good for. Fast forward 20 years and we were having lunch at my parents house and my daughter made herself a sandwich and put her chips on the sandwich. I finally decided to give it a try and was blown away. What had I been missing all those years! 😅

When I was a kid, my dad would always buy subs from the grocery store or make his own and pack them for us on long drives. He liked to drown them in Italian dressing and would then eat them while he drove. Even though I never recall him ever making a mess, I still never considered them road trip food. Not unheard of but still a weird choice.

Potatoes on a sandwich? Fries obviously go on a sandwich.

There should be some sort of law, or at least a local ordinance, that if an ice cream truck plays its music within earshot of your home, it must drive down your block. 😡

I can hear it again…
