Vacca. I don't have the original image - it may have been from the Sartorialist.

Thanks - every single one of these Mantellassi came from Lance - I wish he had access to JL or EG's, I would be totally fine spending 100% of my shoe budget with him

gdl203, re your Grenson butterfly loafers, have you had to put some padding in them for fit? It might just be the lighting, but the pictures seem to suggest some sort of heel-grip sort of pad, and also something along the sides. Also, the color looks darker and a little redder than the ones I got very recently from Chris (but again, it might just be the picture and the lighting). Have you tried some darker polish with them? FWIW, I had to tape in some padding on my right shoe--at the heel and along one side--to make the fit snug enough and prevent heel slipping. Otherwise--and overall--I've been very pleased with these shoes.

Re the Mantellassi suede monkstraps you got from Lance, I've been looking at the same shoe on his website. I'm assuming they're Blake-stitched, but with channeled sole. Is this correct? Also, if they're like a pair of Mantellassi suede bluchers I have (Blake-stitched), they are very light on your feet, with the uppers not providing a great deal of support.

No padding or anything in the butterfly loafers. I did polish them with a darker brown polish (I confess I was inspired by Andrew's pics and did the same

Yes - they're very light and the soles are channeled. I have no idea how to tell if they're Blake or Goodyear welted though. ..

If you look inside up front on the insole, can you see stitching? If so, they're Blake-constructed. That's the single line of stitching that holds the upper, insole and outsole together. I strongly suspect they're Blake-stitched. If they were welted, you'd see stitching on the top of the sole (actually the welt) outside the upper.

i wonder if our disdain for wrinkle-ridden leather shoes--thus the eternal spit-shining--and our psychologically instincts for resisting wrinkles on people have any relationship...
