My explanation is that 75% of raw denim pics on this forum are of drizzt beasting for the camera in some worn-once midnight indigo joints.

I do think there's something to this, but remember Cheaps jeans? Completely awesome! And the fades always show up great on camera. Even sauces regular ralfs look very broken in while he's wearing them.

Nothing looks as good as a pair of presonally broken in raws. For me the problem is that I keep so many jeans in rotation that I never get any significant distress on them... Hence, I often buy black jeans or slightly washed Julian Reds etc.

Real live honest-to-God brokedown raw jeans are much more variable depending on lighting and such, too, btw. My RRDGs on a cloudy day look very high contrast, the greens in the indigo come out in a major way, and they generally look badass. On a bright day at noon, or in the early evening, the contrast is lessened and the fade looks a lot more subtle. Add to this the fact that most of us (myself included) are pretty much noobtastic when it comes to photography, capturing colors without overexposing (I suck at this), etc, and I think a lot of times pictures don't really do well-worn jeans any justice.
