We all know the "best" tailors in Hong Kong are (no particular order):
Obviously they are all VERY expensive (starting price using their "house" fabric is $1,500 USD and up), the biggest problem is 90% of us are tourists staying in Hong Kong an average of 1 week or less, unfortunately giving us enough time for only (1) fitting.
It doesn't matter that these tailors are the "best" without a MINIMUM of (3) fittings you will not be happy with the end result if this is your first time working with a tailor, there are ALWAYS things that need to be adjusted throughout the fitting process...I challenge anyone that knows about quality to disagree with this statement.
Additionally, comparing the way suits were made 20 years ago, I have noticed a decline in the quality (including the names of the "top" tailors listed above), it seems they now have so much business from past name reputation and recognition, they are not as "detailed" as before.
Since most tourists only buy 1 or 2 suits, tailors have no motivation to be detailed and provide a certain level of "perfection" I experienced in past years. Unless you are a repeat customer that can be present for multiple fittings, most of us will be marginally happy with our first suit(s) made with (1) or maybe (2) fittings.
With this said, I am looking for suggestions/recommendations for a "small" Hong Kong tailor looking to make a name for himself or that you can confirm does "good" work, specifically, that can arrange for a minimum of (3) fittings in a week and ship the suits when they are done. I realize this task is impossible with "best" tailors listed above, but with (3) fittings at least you will get the fit right and hope they finish the rest of the details (working holes, buttons) done correctly.
Open to any suggestions and your comments...
