So I'm selling a 32" crt tv I don't ever use on craigslist.

I get a craigslist inquiry asking if its still for sale and I reply yes

then I get

I was told by my assistant that your item is still for sale ,i would
have love to come and see it,but my scheduled is very tight.I will
mail out your payment once you provide your full name.phone number and
address.I can only pay via money order or a cashier check as am on a
business trip now, please let me know where to send your payment to
because i wouldn't want to lose it to some else.I don't mind adding ($20)
dollars so you can keep it in my favor, you should get your payment in
3-5 working days i will appreciate if you can get the ad off
craigslist so i can be sure you are keeping it in my favour. Please
then let me know as soon as you receive it so i can start making
arrangement for the pick-up.
Thanks

Uh. What? Seems really fishy. Is there anything wrong or scammy about accepting a money order? I realize cashier checks can bounce, but will money orders bounce too>

I don't know, I often time cruise craigslist when I'm out of town on business for old, outdated technology. Probs legit.

It's a pretty well documented scam. I can't remember exactly how it works, but I know a bunch of people that have run into very similar messages about out-of-town buyers trying to overpay via money order.

This^

Its a fake money order but by the time you know its fake you've already sent the item. Then if you've withdrawn the money the bank hits you up for the money so so you lose the money and the item. If it were me I'd send him a message that said you would gladly accecpt his money order but that you must hold the item for 7 -10 business days to ensure the money order clears the bank.

My guess is you'll never hear from him again.

Then go with the cash and carry advice.

It's typical to place an Ackbar "It's a trap!" meme image here. However, instead I'm going to post Emma Stone from Easy A:

Hey... i used to work for a bank... saw this all the time... here is what happens
1. you get a cashiers check (fake)
2. person takes item
3. you deposit check
4. by the time your bank realizes that check is fake you are out money and item

also spelling mistakes and the fact that he is on a trip, shopping for tv... its BS dont do it. just friendly advice

craigslist has turned into a very shady neighborhood of the interwebz.
