I used to use Kiwi, and then on a whim, picked up a few jars of Meltonian cream. It seems to work very well, and I think I actually prefer it to the Kiwi wax. I am sold. I have also heard great things about Saphir, but have never tried it personally.

The Meltonian cream has leather dye in it and it should be used for the base. It will cover scratches and add color. Wax should help protect the leather from liquids.

Cream polish is better to use, because it conditions the leather and does not create a build up of wax. Cura brand and AE brand are made by the same manufacturer is the U.S.

You can get Cura cream polishes from Cedarville Store in the glass jar, or premium tube and use the current discount code to receive 15% OFF your total order - styleforum15

You may want to get a 100% horsehair shine brush to go with the polish to buff out a great shine. Let the polish sit on the shoe for a few minutes - before buffing.

Check out the Cedarville Store thread for other Style Forum discount offers.

I like the Allen Edmonds product that is a mix of cream and wax.

I use more cream than wax. But wax is for shining (which I don't like so much).

I thought wax was also for protection, is this not true?

Yes, this is true. Wax will protect against nicks and scuffs, and also repel water. Cream is more absorptive, and will not provide the hard, non-porous finish that wax will. Think of your car; it is not that dissimilar (I use a cream polish to nourish & shine the paint job, and a carnauba wax for protection).

Makes sense. I use wax sparingly on shoes as I don't want a high gloss, yet I do want the protection.

That is true. You can use cream as often as you like, (I use it at least once or twice per week).

For the protection, I use wax once every month.

I switched to Saphir creams and waxes because they smell so much better than Kiwi and Meltonian. Polishing my shoes is now so much more pleasant.

Cream seems to replenish the natural shine of the leather. I prefer it over wax. Some leathers, however, seem dull without wax. If that i the case, I suggest both.

One of the most important steps, I have found, is to let the cream, or wax, dry completely before brushing or buffing. It makes for a better end-product. Also, don't neglect the soles and heels, they're important to the overall look.
