Antirabbit: I know exactly how you feel. Thrifting took a huge downward plunge here. It's hard to get the motivation now. If I were closer to most of these places I go to, I wouldn't have an issue but driving 1/2 hr to find nothing and wasting 1/4 tank of gas is getting a bit old.

Thanks. As soon as I get the shoes cleaned up I'll post pics of both.

I agree about the PS's: I always look but seldom find any.

I have noticed that a bunch of stuff listed on eBay is coming out of you guy's neck of the woods. I guess you have some heavy duty flippers working your spots.

Really?

I have seen quite a few sellers from Chicago which definitely look like flippers. I've only seen a handful from Minnesota, but I really wouldn't doubt it. That would really explain why most of my thrift shop trips have been duds this year.

Col. Littleton #1 Saddlebag: $10.

The front plate is engraved with "Southern Cotton Growers", and it was never used; it still has the unsharpened Col. Littleton pencil in the pencil pocket, unfortunately broken. Minor storage scuffs, probably from the donation bin.

The cockroach who's raiding my favorite spots is travelling about 50 miles roundtrip 2-3 times a week to do so. I've also seen some high-end stuff being listed on eBay by people living in rural East Texas and Oklahoma. I know there's no one wearing Brioni in those places - hell, most people in those places aren't even wearing shoes.

Can it really be so lucrative to sell on eBay that it justifies the gas and time spent driving all the way into Dallas?

Passed on a nice navy Brioni jacket today with side-vents. It was in excellent condition and the price was sub $10, but the styling seemed a bit old with quite heavily padded shoulders and it was size 46. I suspect it was an orphan suit jacket. I carried it around with me for a while, hemming and hawing, but in the end it just seems like too much a hassle to try and flip. It was beautifully made, of course, and it may make a nice blazer for someone if they find it and change out the buttons. It had an old Brioni tag I hadn't seen before, sewn with red threads.

Also passed on a nice Hickey Freeman suit in solid blue herringbone made for Hastings: fully canvased, single vent, flat-front trousers, chest size about 38. Again, really nice, but I'm feeling picky these days. If it's not for me, or doesn't blow my mind in some way, I end up leaving it.

The thrifts here have been picked over as well. I did find a Coach briefcase yesterday (combo leather/nylon) for $8.00.

Hmm, are you sure it was old. I think I know what style tag you're talking about. I wouldn't really consider a Brioni tag old unless it has "Roma" on it.
