Regarding the Crombie discussions. I seem to remember from my early football going days (1968 onwards) some lads wearing woven badges/patches sewn onto the Crombie pockets with their initials on.

in the picture you see the bleached jeans and jackets, and be sure-never underrate the influence of the u.s.-garage-rockers to the development of the hard-mods...

I am at a total loss for something to say about the above comment......Jeez, I've heard it all now. But let's just say, The Squires and their ilk never, EVER influenced UK Mods. Especially by wearing bleached jeans, they look like a bunch of pussies. And I doubt very much if Mods in the UK had heard of them or their music on any scale at all.

Top left, top right, second left show how a scarf was worn back in the day. It looks like they were unknown back in the day in Roy's neck of the woods, but I did see them around mine. As for ties under Crombies, that would depend what you were wearing - I know this sounds simplistic, but if you were wearing a suit and tie and you put a Crombie on over it, you would be wearing a Crombie with a tie, end of. Someone mentioned that Crombies were at their most popular at the time of check shirts, which were usually worn open-necked. That's true, of course, but that doesn't mean you would never see a Crombie with a tie. I have seen both Crombies and sheepskins with loose ties, by the way - loose tie like below.

That would be great, yes we are short of photos of Skinhead girls from back then. Thanks!

You are right, of course: if this forum has taught us anything, it is that things back then were not as cut and dried as some people think....

Where did you get that 'at,
Where did you get that tile?
Isn't it a nobby one
And just the latest style!
How I wish I'd got one
Just the same as that.
Wherever I go they shout "Hello!
Where did you get that 'at?"

Talking of overcoats, what about the raincoat. Of course it was as popular as the crombie or sheepskin but it was worn. By Mods and Skinheads.
Normally fly fronted three quarter length, colours beige, navy or tonic materiel. Never of course macintosh style.

Anyone else?

The Raincoat was worn at the beginning of the style, but fell out favour, It was cheap so most the lads had them, i saw a nice Paul Smith one in Selfridges early this year , very Mod,
