Does anyone have pictures of skinheads back in the late 60's wearing Hawkins Astronauts? I heard they wore them but have never actually seen a picture where I could specify them. Also GetSmart, do you think you could show off your Astronauts here? Because I'm really curious as to how they look after they've broken in a little. Lately I've been getting obsessed with how doc's looked in pictures from around 69' and early 80's, they just look different to me, like from a different last.

PS. GetSmart, is Mikkel Rude's 1969 boot 120GBP flat? No shipping nor tax? (I saw where it said "xxGBP in VAT")

PRINCE OF WALES CHECK

I have forgotten to mention one important item from 1969. There was a vogue for mohair jackets and suits in Prince-of-Wales check. Jackets were worn with Sta-Prest in stone - I had an outfit like that which I wore with black brogues from the Squire Shop. Some girls had P-o-W check suits too. The check was usually plain but sometimes with a thin, red or orange chalk stripe.

I even saw one or two guys wearing P-o-W check Harringtons.

PoW is def a classic "skinhead cloth"

I have a PoW harrington as well, tho since I usually wear check shirts I kind of find it harder to wear than solids

I saw one before, can't remember, maybe warrior clothing? I really liked it but didn't get it for that fact, thought it would be impossible to match with a shirt. On a side note I'd like to say, Warrior Clothing has really nice Harringtons, at least for the price, also they're on sale right now. If you're a risk-taker you could try their shirts. I've bought probably 5 or more shirts from them because they're affordable and sometimes looks sharp (cut-wise and pattern-wise) but, I've ended up with about 3 different fits from the same size. I recently bought their red polo with white and black tips...the black is a dark green... Oh well.. I might get a couple more of their shirts in the future but I really have to beware. I hate to dog on them but I just can't trust their sizing, but they're always really helpful in customer service, I returned a shirt and they sent it right back out.

I've always loved how the Specials dressed, does anyone know where to get a polo similar to the one Terry Hall is wearing? (Guy on the left
, blue and black striped polo) Or the sweater that Horace Panter is wearing? (Guy on right, black and white striped)

^^ totally. There's video footage of some Japanese oi bands that are all over youtube, and I know I'm the original source since I was selling and trading those videos in the late 90s on ebay. I had gotten them from Tokyo skinheads I was in contact with in the early 90s and at the time any video footage of bands like Sledgehammer, Ouka, Bull the Buffalos and Bad Vultures was uber rare and unavailable.

MoM...did you ever wear solatios/crossovers? They go for a lot of money on ebay, esp if deadstock, and I know quite a few traditionals that are into them. me personally think they are the ugliest shoes ever made, but I guess there's no accounting for taste!

In a word, no. However in 67/68, particularly in the North, a shoe similar to the style 107 in the picture below, but slightly slimmer, was worn either with a plain or basket-weave apron. The apron and the toe would have been more rounded at the front. (We called them "Gibsons" but that was probably a misnomer.)

I take it that "crossovers" are like styles 102 and 104 in the pic? I think they're hideous and wouldn't be buried in the damn things!

^^ yep pretty awful. There's def elements of skinhead style from the early days that are, to me, suspect and better left dead and buried rather than revived

Hey Get Smart you might remember Demob Jackets. Bought from the Demob shop on Beak st after a while everyone started copying it and then no one wore it anymore. Mostly cos the copies were so dreadful. I still have mine after 26 years. Classic 80s jacket.
