On the weekend I flew down to Hobart to stay with friends and relax, eat,drink and wander around in a semi touristy mode. Tiger airlines - cheap $170 for two return, leave Thursday PM back Sunday PM.

On Friday we strolled downtown from the sedate heights of Battery Point/Sandy Bay to breakfast at Beaujangles in The Mall.

After coffee I wandered around watching and dodging the various denizens of the mall. One group parading their neck tattoos, facial piercings, trackies with uggs and prams - another set in hiking boots, Kathmandu fleeces, cargo pants, small backpacks and beanies - with the majority of Hobartians (and tourists) some sartorial mixture in between.

In my relaxed state I barely registered Routleys Menswear.

Slyly detaching myself from "the handbrake" I slid inside, drank it in and had a chat while looking at clothes.

Short story - best range of Sportscoats I have ever seen in one spot - they even had striped proper regatta blazers. Lots of nice Italian fabrics in a range of colours - a few tasteful window pane checks etc. A selection of the much prized on SF and AAAC classic blue blazer in DB and SBs. Jackets from $450 - $800 and perhaps a few higher priced. Suits - ranging from some basic lads stuff at $400 through to $1,500+. Some nice checks in suits, blue and grey all shades. A few Grey flannel suits - DB and SB. A very big selection of tasty colours and materials.

Shirts a wide range of more casual shirts a - a bit pricey I thought but nonetheless attractive patterns etc. Good big selection of ties - not all in those bright pastels that are all the rage. Belts - very many more than most places. There was also knitwear - which I don't wear and pants - wool through to chinos - extensive colour range - many shades of pale and red chinos etc.

I don't think I've seen a more comprehensive selection of men's quality clothing in one store in Australia - and at a sensible range of prices.

I don't try anything on - I wasn't planning on shopping and time caught up with me anyway - but service appeared to be discreet, friendly and non snobby or pushy.

You could do worse than get a cheap flight over one Saturday morning, $90 return, slip into Routleys and spend a few hours shopping then fly back that night - more relaxing and possibly better range of clothes in one shop than doing the Melbourne conservative business dress.

Routley's is definately the best menswear shop in Hobart and pretty decent by mainland standards too. Have shopped there before, as my parents live in Tasi.

Hi guys, I received my first bawden bespoke button up today, I'll post some pics asap. On initial inspection the quality seems pretty good. Nice fabric, and fits pretty well. The French cuffs aren't quite what I wanted. Not too bad for $117

does anyone know of the mens fashion magazine published between 88 and 92?(please), and a monthly published in the 80's also.

I'm from Tas....Routley's is basically the only shop I enter!

heres a quick few shots of the new bawden shirt. Needs an iron and some clothes etc, but overall i quite like the quality of it.

Shirt looks very nice. Not crazy about the collar, but the fabric and cuffs look very nice.

Those pants might be a bit bright and informal for the shirt and might not look too hot when you tuck it in.

Uhm I bought some Borrelli shirts online that have too much fabric around the waist so I need a decent alteration. Anyone knows a good tailor for that in Sydney?

Your shirt is certainly more impressive than our footy team...
