I saw that in the Epaulet thread.

You're welcome, of course.

Anyone know I'd double monk offer a package deal? E.g. If I go with:
C&J: 485
Shoe trees: x amount (not sure)
Plus some polish: x amount (let's say I buy polish for about the same as the trees)
Do you reckon they'd be willing to take one of the x's off or are they one of the strict pricing people?
You reckon this will fetch a ill less than 550? That's the deal I made with the wife.

C&J shoes trees are $95.
When I was there some guy bought a pair of C&J's and Nick threw in the Saphir shoe polish on the house.

Nice to know I'm not the only one thinking this :p

Also apro; the comments on Nick's whiskey was completely unnecessary...I defend whiskey with meh life...oh and Nick :)

Also thanks for the advice on the shoes I'll ask me anyways and try to get me for 550; if anyone's gotten a similar deal from dubmonk feel free to speak up.

Mate I always buy cheap shoe trees from amazon(AE/Woodlore ) . Different brand shoe trees won't really make a difference unless of course if you buy bespoke pair of shoes with lasted shoe trees.
Anyway I am waiting for 2 pairs of RL marlows penny and tassel (;

I lol'd.

PSA: Ralph Lauren Chatswood Chase has 60% off certain lines (polos for example, are down to 47 bucks, which ain't bad) and they also stock a decent amount of black label, but only purple label wallets. Herringbone Chatswood Chase still has C&J Penny Loafers half-price.

Hi all, first post here so go easy :)

What do you guys think of Rodd and Gunn? Actually they have clothing now branded R&G which is aimed at the younger buyer.
They have a 2 year guarantee on some of their stuff too. Recently bought a jacket(more like a half coat) for 50% off at R&G store in Chadstone. Label says Italian fabric but it's made in China.

I'm about to go full marsupial and get a tweed blazer made with elbow patches. Which fabric do you guys prefer? I'm leaning towards the last one.

If you can find it, I find I'm much more partial to these sorts of tweeds

YMMV though.

I had no idea that there is a global 'rule book to clothing'. I took Manton as a general guide to looking better. Not a black and white manifesto to men's clothing.

Actually, there are several definitive books on classic menswear. Read Flusser, Roetzel, and Boyer. Then you will begin to understand how wrong you are about this. Manton just happens to be exceptionally well-studied in the area.

Us young guys aren't trying to 'get to the top, by taking shortcuts'. What the hell is the top? Top of Styleforum? Top of society?

Young men are interested in buying clothing that: has been made by someone that has committed their lives to making the highest quality clothing (and can make the highest quality clothing), obtaining the best fabrics, something that they think makes them look good, and their family, friends and associates like on them.

Excuse me, I'm 31. I was 25 in 2007. I entered college in 2000. Since that time, I've personally witnessed the emergence of classic menswear as an interest for 20-something and 30-something men--in 2000, virtually no socially normal 25-year-old was looking to get into tailored clothing. What you don't understand is that the emergence of classic menswear rode very heavily on the back of internet discussion, which in turn thrived on knowledge from older, wiser men for whom such clothing was already a lifestyle, as well as from the literary authorities mentioned above. If you knew your Flusser, if you had browsed through the old Apparel Arts illustrations, you would have some much more insightful perspective on what now drives people to look at Pitti and flip through Tumblrs featuring tailored clothing. I will go so far as to say: without the internet forums to revive forgotten knowledge (yes, "rules") about classic menswear, the revival would not have happened in the first place. This stuff did not appear in Esquire or GQ--and still doesn't .

Now the problem is that an entirely new generation has joined the fray. And you are totally ignorant of how the current state of things has developed. You don't understand that, yes, there is a body of knowledge and rules underlying what you mistake as an organic welling-up of self-expressive energy. Hence, when you see outfits at Pitti, you have no idea what is clownish and what is not. You cannot even begin to interpret what is worn there as serious, earnest clothing, versus what is a stunt to showcase product features or start a new trend.

Hi Foo,

You must have some sort of Manton post alerts system set up, impressive. I completely understand that Manton's tone in non serious, which is what I was trying to explain. I think it's easy to misinterpret some of his half serious rules/suggestions and take them as make-or-break style laws. I have thoroughly enjoyed a lot of what he posts (and indeed what you have posted), I didn't mean to suggest otherwise

wtf

I have been on this forum for six years. I have over sixteen-thousand posts. Needless to say, I notice a lot of things just because I'm here. That includes this woefully misguided discussion. See above.

I currently suffer from the same affliction, I like the last but I have also noticed some nice examples with just a touch of a contrasting color which are also quite nice. Will you go all the way with bi-swing and such?? http://www.williampowell.com/Mens/M...am-Powell-Tweed-Action-Back-Jacket_MJC620.htm
