After far too much thought have ordered the Church's Legate model in black calf (http://www.herringshoes.co.uk/produ...id=4&catid=38&oldcolid=2136&stype=0&overlay=0)

Thanks to The Ernesto for the advice/push in the right direction.

Black calf oxfords with broguing are the sensible purchase for work. Oh, and I really like them too. Will have to do something charitable before ordering monks (whenever that will happened).

Anyway, carry on...

Brown tweed suit for autumn/winter - too specific or a good addition to the cooler months suit rotation?

This chemise or shift of the 1830s has elbow-length sleeves and is worn under a corset and petticoats.

I've already got a brown, glen plaid suit (I wore it on Monday), but I'm planning on having a brown, donegal tweed suit made up for me in time for next winter, provided that I can source an appropriate shade of brown with the right fleck through it.

I think that a brown suit would be a good wardrobe addition and it could, potentially, be worn as separates, too.
