lol ive never worn thru a steel plate. I rkn id get at least 2 resoles out of them and by that stage i well and truly would of got my value from them.

I rotate between ~6 pairs of dress shoes to prolong the life of each. That said with all the rain, ive only one pair of rubber soles that has had more than their fair share of wear

Anyone got suggestions for what the next step up is for MTO shirts online after CottonWork is?

I ordered a Cottonwork "Leggiuno" fabric shirt for $130 and for that price the quality in stitching and the fabric doesn't have the longevity or feel that Herringbone is offering at $99-$150 these days.

I would like to buy OTR Herringbone shirts but they don't fit me as well as they could...

Would be greatful for some suggestions. Unfortunately PJohnson at $225-275 a shirt is just out of my league.

Been working through the ties I bought at the HB sale. My favourite so far is a solid cornflower blue Paolo Albizzati they had for $39. Second is another PA, red with white dots that the ladies at work loved. Never heard of the brand before - thanks for the heads-up Gerry.

You're very welcome. I only heard about it via the postings by Blahman and Romp so a big thanks from me to them for the heads-up - I wouldn't have even gone to the HB sale otherwise. I wore my PA tie last week, the houndstooth over the weekend at the wedding and the HC tween tie on Friday so it's been a good weekend

Sliq these are pretty solid and screwed in. They sit flush and the metal feels diff to the ones ive had nailed in to other shoes. Give me a buzz next time ur free for lunch and ill wear them in to show you.

Why are the ties so expensive?
Or in less inflammatory terms, why does this tie sell for the price it does?

I would seriously love to know if this is a case of the tie priced where it is due to an accumulation of costs or if
this is one of those times a tie could cost $5 to make and because the market has set the price of "good ties" at $99 that is what it sells for.

I made my own tie over the weekend and total cost was $13 for fabric and $2 for the opshop tie I pulled apart to get to the inner-linning.
Add $1 for needle and thread, $2 a tie ( spread across 10 ties) for a rotary cutter and away you go.

Would there be a market in Australia for hand made ties at $50 a pop?

I have had shirts made from lee baron, jantzen, cotton works & Mytailor.

Mytailor was the most expensive, but personally it seems to have the best construction and feels quite sturdy, whereas the cotton works and lee baron shirts doesn't feel quite as nice as ones from Mytailor. Would recommend you give them a go...

You have generations of experience making clothing and ties? Are you using high quality Italian silk? How good is your hand stitching and attention to detail? You also have to factor in how much fabric is used for a 7 fold tie vs normal construction.

So in short, they are priced that way due to them being made by hand, by an experienced workman, using significant amounts of high quality fabric, in a country far away from Australia. Is there a market for $50 handmade ties in Australia? Sure. Is there a market for $50 handmade ties in Australia made by yourself using recycled op-shop ties? Most probably not.
