Was it opening night? Unlikely, I guess, if it was a Wednesday.
I saw MacBeth a couple of months ago and Mrs S and I had dinner at the new Opera Kitchen zone at the SOH - and as folk were streaming past about 50% were in evenning dress, which had me feeling a quite underdressed. To my great relief all the well dressed patrons headed for the stalls, while Mrs S and I took our rightful places in the cheapies with the normal motley dressed crowd you get at the SOH - including a sprinkling of tourists in shorts.
I hadn't been to the opera for a couple of years, but I used to go a lot, pre-kids. Outside of opening night, if you turned up in a dinner suit you were likely to be in a tiny minority of about one.

Yes, opening night, you're right black tie is quite rare outside of opening night. Actually after I started going to the opera I became more interested in tailored clothes. That and having a suit made for me in HK when I was 18 got me interested, now I use mostly local tailors here in Melbourne.

Hi all
Just received a tie from SF'er GShen's Singapore-based Vanda Fine Clothing.
Untipped and unlined. Six-fold. Huddersfield Wool.
Personally, I think it's gorgeous, and I heartily recommend Vanda as a player to watch.
Here is the tie (as taken from an interview with Gerald at Put This On (http://putthison.com/post/12927896737/vanda-fine-clothing):

And again, this time with my sharkskin P Johnson:

Unfortunately, they've sold out of just about every tie on their e-store, but here's hoping they put some new merchandise up soon.

Hey guys, what are some basic rules for coordinating pocket squares with the rest of an outfit? All I know is to not match it to the tie.

Also, just had 3 ties delivered from Sam Hober :inlove: , the first of many orders no doubt.

As someone who is going to be my competition next year (in Australia at least), I must say this looks great.

Never seen it in Australia. RL Collins St told me it was unavailable here and were amazed to know I was wearing an RLPL suit.

I bought a RLPL madder tie at their DFO outlet at homebush - so there must be some stock coming in (unless it was just a sample).

Where is the H-bone warehouse? I take it they are open Saturday arvo and what is the colour and size range like in the polos? thinking of son so S would be the go.
thanks

They're in Commonwealth Street, near Central. Yes, open on weekends.

Not sure on size range - I was shopping at the other end of the spectrum - but I think they had the full range of sizes.

They had navy, sky blue, white, faded red in good numbers. A few dk purple, real red, green and pink. I like them because they fit well on the shoulders, have a proper collar and aren't just a vehicle for a logo...and they're cheap. So good luck.

Correction - the $10 knits are cotton knits - the woolen ones are $50.

As Selv mentioned, they must have RLPL somewhere as I purchased a DB suit and lambskin jacket from their sale not too ago

SW&D oriented feature on Sydney creative types in the MR Porter journal...

V Advertorial - with the "shop the look" mouse hover it's clear they're not even wearing their own clobber. Look at the soles of Mr Justin Hemmes shoes. Feel a bit queasy. Or maybe I'm just jealous because I don't get to work for a trans-pacific magazine focussing on art (a select edit), music and surfing and skateboarding culture.

Haha yes, they do that. I was featured along with Tom Riley (of P Johnson) earlier this year in a 3 Cities street style type promotion they were doing - and - they had "Shop The Look". I was wearing the same jeans, but other than that it was all just stuff they were selling on their website. Same goes for all the other outfits.
