I wouldn't spend that much on headphones and I have a very expensive system.

Interesting. As an aside, the bass on the '75s is entirely dependent on fit of the earclip. I never liked the rubber-covered wire earclips of the '75, so I replaced them with the thin plastic ones from my blown KSC-35's. That really tightened up the bass. Still, what you're describing sounds an awful lot like the Senn PMX-100's. Have you heard those?

IMO, IEM's really need a crossfeed circuit like HeadRoom's to not do that.

Well, we always knew that deep down you were seeking that 1980s car audio sound. Grados and Wilsons...not a fan of actual high fidelity, I suppose.

Objectively, there isn't any. You're basically buying art. Just look at that amp!

Yes. They're probably between the Senns and Koss's in terms of oomph, and between Senns and Grados in terms of highs. I think the Senns have slightly more balance around the mid range, but I prefer the clarity of the ATs. Honestly though, I don't think the Senns really compare. They're basically in two different leagues in terms of sound quality - the ATs are so incredibly precise, you should really give their products a listen. This is to my ears, anyway. I know there are a lot of people out there who just don't get into AT products, period.

More headphones probably shouldn't be in my cards; current rotation is Denon AD-H2000, Senn 580, Senn PMX-100, Altec/Ety im716, Koss KSC-75, and that's quite crazy as it is even though each one has its dedicated purpose in my lifestyle. Denon: listening to music during long law lib sessions without the discomfort of using IEM's for many days in a row; 580: listening to music at home at night; PMX100/KSC75: working out; and im716, traveling to interviews and other such things that require isolation and small size since I bought the Denons to keep my ears from hurting in the lib Still, I'm intrigued, and if I ever find out that someone I know has a pair of the better AT's I'll be sure to ask for a listen. Along with the AKG 701/702 and a few others I haven't spent enough time with to form a reasonable opinion of them.

One can not expect to be taken seriously in public with a pair of headphones bigger than ones head.

I prefer my ipod headphones, not for the sound experience but rather for their design, eventhough joe six-pack has discovered the ipod a long time ago.

OP's headphones belong inside a studio.

The HD-580 Jubilee, HD-600, and HD-650 lose a bit of the design purity of the '580 with their carbon fiber bits and metal grilles.

If you're not using a headphone amp, then I would actually recommend the HD-595 over the HD-580.

The 580 arguably sounds better with an amp, but 595 definitely sounds better without. For this reason the 595 is less popular with hardcore audiophiles, so it is usually easier to get a better deal on it.

Same here. I cannot justify paying $15000 for a pair of headphones, but then again I don't have that kind of budget. If I were a wealthy sheik I would probably own these.

Here is an on-head shot of the ESW9. The ESW10JPN and ES7 are the same size. These are not headphones I'd throw around but they are certainly no Jecklin Floats. Thanks to whomever on head-fi took that picture.

I like the Grados because when I record violin or other classical instruments, they get the tonality of the instrument more accurate than all the other cans we have tried. They are the perfect monitor for what is happening in front of the microphone and quite a step above any 80s car audio sound I remember.

Dude, we already know you can't hear for ****, and you like to make up for that basic deficiency with idiot wastes of money such as "proper wood cable stands." You don't have to keep reminding us. The "perfect monitor for what is happening in front of the microphone" would not have bloated, indistinct bass and a glaringly obvious upper midrange peak, the sonic flaws that mar every Grado I've heard from the SR60 to the RS1.

Interesting. I've never heard the 595, and never was inclined to because the 580's are such good open cans and the 595 is one of the sorrier efforts to emerge from Senn's industrial design staff.

But it would make sense that they're easier to drive for low-voltage portable gear, considering their impedance is just a bit more than 1/3 that of the 580s.

As an aside, I'm really surprised how well the Denon AH-D2000's do straight out of the MacBook. They do sound better with the Total AirHead even without the crossfeed, but the difference is far, far less than the difference between the 580s amp'ed and unamp'ed.

**** you Spazz. You have no idea what I can or cannot hear. Just because you disagree with my views does not give you license to attack me on a personal level.
