sorry for using this personal image of another member but can anyone tell me the purpose of the flap on the upper right chest? is it a storm flap or something? i know most raincoats i see with this are merely for aesthetic purposes but can anyone tell me the original intention? i have a similar coat except the flap is buttoned down and it really has no use.

Why don't you PM him and ask?

What they told you is generally true. Places that sell suit separates such as Target and Joseph A Banks are generally on the low end of the scale. Brooks Brothers has some nicer separates, but they're certainly not at the top of their range (Black Fleece, etc.), either. If you want specific MTM suggestions, you'll need to give a specific price range and your location or locations to which you're willing to travel.

are there any guidelines to wearing pocket squares and button holes together? the flowers are likely to be pale pink and the suit is a navy.

also, is there any problem wearing a navy tie with a navy suit?

This depends on where you are located and what price you regard as decent. In this economy prices are as low for domestic MTM as they have been for a long time. For a NY made suit, from a reputable agent local to you, who is in a part of town with minimal over-head, manufactured in an okay tropical wool (unspecified origin) figure $1,500 for a straight forward 2 piece suit as the low end of 'acceptable' quality. By acceptable, I mean seams that lie flat, half-canvas that is fused to the suit, but not obviously so, trousers that are lined to the knee, horn buttons if you want them, and fabric that does not wrinkle badly when you sit down.

Some companies make drop 7 suits. Having the pants taken in 2 inches might be a good option depending on how you're built.

The other option is to decide if you can live without suits. Odd jackets and non matching pants.

I don't think blacks or brown without some kind of reddish tint pair well with burgundy shoes. I wouldn't say you need the $230 matching Alden belt, but I would say you need some kind of burgundy belt.

Has anyone got a link or a photograph of a RL Black and White herringbone 3-piece suit (Peak lapels)?

I know the image in my mind as it was triggered by an image I can't find.

I've been lucky enough to find a tailor I can trust who shares my OCD. I recently acquired a 3-piece hand made Harris Tweed to die for, the workmanship is beyond compare. My man has been able to sympathetically fit it to me so I intend to take further advantage but can't clearly point him in the right direction, I feel, without this image.

Any help gratefully received...
