The gins I have right now are Tanqueray No. 10, Martin Miller's, Aviation, Plymouth, Hendrick's, and I just ran out of my well gin (Beefeater).

Thanks guys!

If you're particularly interested in gin, the Plymouth Navy Strength is beloved and not available (yet) in the States. Were it me, I'd be going for whisky that is not available Stateside, like, for instance, Mortlach's distillery bottling. My favorite vodka, Smirnoff Black Copper Pot Still, would also rank highly.

I just went through a samper 12 pack of Victory. Also bought a bottle of Old Overholt I've barely touched.

Sure!
Actually, I'm stocking up a little because I think spirits in BE/NL are a little more expensive.

Yeah true that. Sometimes I just buy diffrent kind of spirits to save up, guests or make a drink sometime. Always good to have.

Yeah.. problem is that spirits take so much space. Right now, I have like 30-40 bottles (or so) and if I stock up, I'd have about 55. And then there's the cost.. laugh.gif

I think you're misunderstanding the type of drinkers most in here are- I don't think many here buy bottles for the purpose of consuming them quick. They're buying liquor to maintain a well stocked selection rather than buying it to drink immediately. You're almost certainly not going to find anybody who drinks with the sole aim of getting hammered.

What did I write? I wrote that it's always good to buy and save up? Have a big stock of many diffrent liquor. Didn't write anything about drinking it fast?

In that case both of you are correct. tongue.gif

BTW, thank you, Hunts. I found a post of you recommending the Alto del Carmen (negro). It's really good (but I have to admit I haven't had a pisco before) -- almost a tad too sweet for my taste though.

Just the tone of your posts, particularly the first comment to b1os, which implied that just because he bought liquor, he would be getting drunk that night. It sounded like what I heard like an attitude I saw a lot in college. "Got two bottles of rum, getting drunk tonight!". And you commented that it's always good to buy and save up in a way that implied that such a decision was abnormal.

If I misunderstood, I apologize.

Oh, that reminds me: I picked up a handle of Plantation Barbados 5-year old rum the other day. Almost through the bottle we got earlier this year and wanted to stock up. Of course I haven't drank anything in a few nights now so I have no idea when I'll crack this open.

How is it? I'm looking for a Barbados rum for a few "tiki drinks" like Royal Bermuda Yacht Club (well, mostly for that). I thought about getting the Mount Gay Extra Old. Which do you prefer (for reference, the Mount Gay costs 5€ more/liter than the Plantation 5). Edit: Just saw that the local liquor store has another cheaper Barbados rum in stock -- Doorly's 5. Is this a well rum (it looks like it's amber though.... -- so if that one would work, Mount Gay Eclipse should, too)?

based upon the reviews that extra old gets you should probably try it, I have had the same bottle of extra old for 8 years... i tried and hated it and simply never threw it out.
