Some sort of art.

Techincally everything that I get for Christmas I "get myself" in that I pretty much pick all of it out myself since I don't trust my parents.

I know it is different than the warranties for computers but my uncle's business handles finances for a lot of car dealerships and also is used by buyers to determine the worth of the dealerships and he always talks about how much money the dealerships make off of the extended warranties they push. I never buy an extended warranty on electronics. By the time it breaks (if you take care of it and it is decent quality) you'll want something else anyway.

I bought an extended warranty for my car from an aftermarket place and they went bankrupt without ever paying my one claim. Warranty cost me about $1400, claim it should have covered cost me $350 or so... do the math. Warranty companies suck.

BTW, if you talk to your insurance agent I've heard you can get a policy on a laptop for like $30/year that covers replacement if it gets destroyed somehow. Never looked into it but it sounded like something worth checking out.

I don't want to cause the thread to wander too far off course, but extended warranties for cars? There's been a ton of court cases where a consumer was sold a monthly payment. What was not apparent was that 50% of the payment was for all the aftermarket stuff the dealership sold them, often on a car worth only a few thousand dollars.

An SLR for n00bs (Nikon D40x) and a couple of OCBDs. I am waiting for after Christmas to get a PS3.

E Hale in merlot. Perhaps something to follow at Nordstroms or BB depending on the sales.

A propane heater.

Might seem a little odd but it lets me escape to my garage away from email, school and work for a couple of hours a week without freezing ****** off.

Nothing. In fact, I'm giving up my "new boots fund" to my wife to use basically as she wishes. It'll probably be fancy kitchen stuff and a Roomba.
