I go to a pretty conservative university. Lots of pretentious, rich, closed-minded kids wearing little but Abercrombie and North Face.

I sometimes get looks for wearing something like a wool M65 (H&M one that looks a bit like the NDG one) a beanie, and some regular fitting jeans (SuFu 660 true to size).

I mean, it's just Xavier in Cinci. Anyone else experienced this, where you have to tone down your style a bit?

That's exactly why you need to NOT tone down your style.

Dear apocalypse_later,

Why do you care so much about what people think? If you have a style, rock it. Don't compromise.

I think you should talk to a college counselor, you strike me as a rather disturbed individual. This whole dual-identity thing is sad and creepy.

I wore a scarf to school once and I was mocked endlessly for it.

Though it was only guys who gave me crap and every girl loved it and when I went to the local community college (I go to highschool and college) no one had a problem.

Also everyone is always fascinated by my peacoat and once again at college it's no big deal (though I do get compliments).

It's college. Even at Xavier you should be able to find some friends that don't dress (or act) like typical Abercrombie/Hollister whores. Just own your style, be comfortable in your own skin, and people that are worth talking to will reveal themselves as such. If the rest give you looks for wearing what you want, **** 'em.

I didn't think there was a fellow Cincinnati(an).

I go to Miami University. I feel your pain.

Here is the breakdown of Miami guys.

The standard guy who wears a North Face Jacket (uhh), light colored Jeans, and New Balance shoes.

Then there are the guys who think they are stylish, because they have a pair of 7 for all Mankinds. (Not that 7FAM are bad, but it seems like the guys wearing them, bought them because of the name.)

There are some guys who wear some skinny jeans, chucks, and some top. Not bad, but not really my style.

I've only seen a couple really nice styles. Preppy in a very traditional and well done manner. I don't mean the guys with polo shirts, khaki shorts, and topsiders.

You guys think you have it bad, you should check out the University of Dayton. I am not exaggerating when I say 85% of the visible student body on any given day is wearing a North Face jacket and sweatpants.

I'm tempted to wear orange pants tomorrow as a big "**** you" to the North Face crowd.

People that own those jackets don't refer to them as such, it's "my North Face" this and "my North Face" that. Infuriating.

I'd rather die than wear such slop. Give me duffel coats or give me death!
