Will buying a shirt a half size larger (15.5 instead of 15) make the shirt look ridiculous on you? What about half size smaller (14.5 instead of 15)

I'm looking at Tywhitt shirts specifically.

No, but it will make the shirt uncomfortable. Buy a different shirt if the body is not correct or tailor it.

The only CT shirt I have is a 15/33", labelled slim fitting, but has a 42" chest...
So be prepared to be wear a tent.

I often buy things that are not quite perfect but cheap.
Those purchases I usually regret. To help me avoid this, I imagine saving that money toward something I find later down the road that costs more.
So, for example, if this shirt costs $50 (down from $150), I don't buy it and credit that $50 to a $100 one later.
