Pick stitching question

I recently began rebuilding my wardrobe. Now that I'm firmly in my career, I figure it is time to move up from Men's Warehouse/JoBank. However, in my zeal, I may have made a fashion error.

The first thing I had made was a beautiful charcoal suit. It was during the designing of that suit, however, that I learned about pick stitching. I had it done, and it's understated but, I think, well done. So when I went back to design a handful of other garments, I decided to get it more pronounced on the one item that wasn't strictly for work: the sport coat. So I ended up getting a darker navy blazer with... a little bit darker thread used for the pick stitching. My style is mostly simple and conservative, but I thought this might look nice. Now that I have read a little bit more on it, I think that maybe I went into tacky land.

So, is there any chance this won't look terrible? It's a somewhat expensive jacket so I'm hoping it's not too bad, but I was bound to make some kind of faux pas as this is my first foray into quality clothing. Maybe an expensive lesson?

Good pick stitching should be very subtle. Contrasting thread is likely going too far. Fortunately, the stitching can be removed and redone. Depending on how the suit was constructed, there's a decent chance that the stitching is purely decorative and does not even need to be redone after removal.

My first impression on reading your post, from how you worded it, is that you are massively over-analyzing this. Pik stitching done well looks just fine, and can be a nice subtle detail. It certainly doesn't ruin a suit if you have it. Sure, it would be inappropriate on formal jackets, but I would find it hard to believe you have ruined a sportcoat. Most all unlined jackets, which are inherently sport-y, have pick stitching and look good.

The only way you could have ruined it is if you went with a crazy contrast colour.

Anyway, pic's or it didn't happen...

Simple and Conservative. Perhaps this is too small of a box to be in? Sports coats are not business suits, and what you have sounds rather conservative. What you wear tells about your personality and what groups you belong to. But how much more personality do you have. Is the box to small for your personality and this is an attempt to discover what else you are? Wear the coat now and then and one day it will probably fit.

The best in the world made mistakes when they explored. If they never explored how could they become best?

Well, these posts certainly made me more optimistic about my choice. I will see how it looks it comes in (probably about a month) and if it's just not going to work then I'll have it removed (didn't realize that was an option, thanks).

Will update with pictures. Thank you!

I would have almost no hesitation saying this will look just fine, and near absolute certainty that you haven't strayed into the tacky or d-bag realm.

Great username by the way. Wish I had thought of that.
