I smelled the Tom Ford extreme and was not impressed. It was not very concentrated (which you would think it was being the "extreme" version and was rather clichÃ

Hi Rach, I had the HL EdP, but I liked it so much, I used it up. I used to layer both as you mentioned. The Parfum had a little more sweet and powdery quality and seemed a little heavier. It was nice. Wish they still made it. Or do they?

Thursday: Chanel PM Eau de Cologne

^No, they discontinued the EdP with the rest of the line and it's a big shame. But, you can sometimes find a bottle on ebay or around that isn't too expensive.

For me, it's Diptyque Philosykos today, the best fig for cool weather (although my favorite fig is still Anthousa Fig&Vetiver).

Ahh, the wonderfully lazy decadence of sleeping in, sort of. The bad part was that I had no idea what scent I would wear, so after some indecision I went with Signoricci, a generous decant from Ivan Kipling. It's just sharp enough with the lemon notes to get my attention, but the powdery qualities are making me wonder if it's going to get all gentlemanly and stuffy. So far I'm comfortable with it.

So, Sandalwood. I know there are fans of Sandalwood, and then there are FANS of Sandalwood. I suppose it's a bit like beer. If you don't like beer, you just haven't tried enough of them. I'll keep my eyes peeled for LV or Etro (AoS is off the radar, and I struggle with Creed) and see how it goes. Thanks for the recommendations!

For me, it's Parfums Berdoues today -- made with exclusive Santal de Mysore sandalwood.

Creed Cuir de Russie - an old favorite. Leather with a capital "L". A very masculine scent IMHO.

Who know what the cheapest bottle of SMN colonia goes for? I am very curious to try it.

You may find some more cheaply on ebay, but retail is in the $85-90 neighborhood. You'll want to be careful of finding too "great" a deal online or from an unauthorized dealer, however, because it's been around a LONG time and you don't want to take a chance getting old stock that has turned.

There are many different SMN fragrances; I assume you are talking about the original Eau de cologne. It's pretty good, but there are many others from the range that are more interesting. As a classic EdC, it's similar to a lot of others out there that use fresh citrus notes with woody accents. Melograno, Kyoto, or Colonia Russa are more interesting, IMO, as is their Patchouli scent. Some of the leather scents are nice, too, but not for the faint of heart.

You are welcome. If you want to try a low-cost alternative that's actually quite a bit like the SMN, do an online search on some of the internet perfume discounters for a brand called "Compagnia Delle Indie" and its "Colonia" scent. It's fairly decent and quite inexpensive. I think I have some extra laying around somewhere; drop me a PM if you want to try it.

A little more pricey would be Parfum de Nicolai Cologne Sologne or Parfums Berdoues Naturelle, both of which are fairly close to this as well.

Overall, though, I don't find the SMN to be worth it. It's VERY light (EdC concentration) and for the money isn't that great a deal, especially when you compare it to some of the others from the SMN range.

For the same price, you could go to luckyscent.com and get a 500ml Comme des Garcons Cologne Series Vettiveru, which is a WONDERFUL Eau de Cologne and very unique (Citrico and Anbar, the others in the series, are nice as well).

Today for some strange reason I'm back to Ormonde Man. Of course, Mrs. T really, really did not like it. There's a bit of black pepper to it, seems to dominate really, only a little bit sweet, and the spices start to unfold after a while. Of the scents that repulse her (pretty well my whole drawer), this one might just be king of the hill in revulsion factor. But I like it, and if I wore only what she chose for me, I could not live with myself.

Pi is one that many fragrance fans swear by, but it's one I never could make work. Tonka bean and benzoin are two things my nose doesn't like, and it uses BOTH like they're goin' out of style. But, it is still a fascinating fragrance, overall, and the bottle design is one of the coolest out there.
