It is hard to define light, but from what I have and use, I would suggest either English Fern and Habit Rouge Legere (this may be hard to find). Maybe YSL Rive Gauche Pour Homme, but I think of that as more of a quick fade then really light.

Monsieur de Givenchy, Guerlain Vetiver, Acqua di Parma, Eau Sauvage, those are all fairly safe.

It's probably just the jetlag, but off hand I can't remember if Kama is an Ava Luxe I've tried... I know I used to have a few, but I don't think Kama was one of them. Maybe "Cafe Noir?" Anyway, the one I had was powerful to the point of being used as self-defense spray against muggers. So, assuming kama is anywhere close to the others I've tried, you might be in for something intense...

Anyway, Different company Bois d'iris for me today...

I have to disagree...

To each his own, of course, but I find Thomas' recommendations to be more on target... excellent scents all around, not absurdly overpriced, and with enough distinction that you won't smell like fifteen other people in the same room (and, if there are more than 10 men in one area in summer, probably any two of them will wear AdG.)

It's a little harder to find and a LITTLE more expensive (around $75) but Fresh Cannabis santal is another that is very, very nice. Masculine without being too spicy/deep, interesting without being too "detergent/clean," and very classy. It also works equally well during the day or at night.

Today: Aramis New West. I so loved this when it came out. Now? hmmm, I think there are others I like better, but this one scratches a particular itch like nothing else.

Thanks a lot for the advice! It was spot on. Much better advice than from the store clerks. Ended up with Dior Eau Sauvage.

So, this has been a week of 70's and 80's powerhouses (Antaeus, Red for Men, etc.), so I figured I'd make it an "Azzaro Pour Homme" Thursday to round out the batch.

Tomorrow, on deck, is something considerably softer and more subtle (this week's crowd-dispersion-scents have just about caused my nose to stop working), Il Profvmo Aventure.

Funny you mention Antaeus...that's what I'm wearing today. But then again I'm speaking this evening - mostly unscripted - and this is my go-to power/comfort scent.

Yes, I've been channeling you all week, Thomas. If I hadn't gotten rid of my Yatagan years ago, it would have been a regular stink-fest. (haha) But, today I'm going with some HL EdP (which I think I got from you, come to think of it!), so I'm starting to get back into the normal swing. Tomorrow, just to get some balance, I will go with the anti-Yatagan, the Anti-red, the anti-Antaeus... the fruity, sweet, lighthearted jumble that is Escada Sunset Heat.

Yes, Caron definitely takes no prisoners and has no lukewarm receptions (it's all LOVE IT or HATE IT!). For a major perfume house, they probably are the biggest hit with perfumistas...

Some of their "fountain" fragrances are really quite wonderful (the ones you can only get from their boutiques). But, even their largely distributed items (3eme man, Caron Pour un homme, the aforementioned Yatagan, etc.) are really very unique.

Actually I have Yatagan and 3rd Man and was mulling Pour un Homme but it sounds almost too...powdery for my liking. I've got a couple of lavenders and decided this was best left alone.

Yatagan, I hear tell, has been reformulated and now is...flowery? Emasculated? I do not know firsthand but have heard this too much to ignore it.

I also have a cherished sample vial of Tabac Blond. That it was ever sold to women is remarkable.

I had wanted to try En Avion very badly but it seems Monsieur Fraysse has changed it to something altogether unrecognizable.

...

At the moment I am sampling Kouros on one hand and Cuir Amethist on the other. CA reminds me of Dior Homme with the lipstick accord, and Kouros reminds me of nothing I have ever smelled.

Kouros, too, takes no prisoners. I love it, too, but can't exactly figure out why. It's fresh, but it is also sharp and almost acrid.

If you like Kouros and want to try it's "rich uncle," go for Creed Orange Spice. It's got the Kouros combativeness with the Creed ultra-luxe added in for good measure. It's like getting punched in the stomach by somebody wearing Caraceni.

I may take a pass on the whole getting hit in the stomach business. At least for now.

Today I'm testing some Le Labo Vetiver. It was fine for a while but now it's gone. Barely 3 hours - even Guerlain's lasts longer.
