Exactly how should you care for a fused suit?

I ask because I am preparing to buy a half-canvassed wool suit (can't afford a fully-canvassed one), which means that the suit will obviously be partially fused. Over the course of my research, I have read that you should not have a suit dry-cleaned unless it absolutely needs it (due to a really funky smell or bad stain). I have also read that you should never steam a suit which is fused, since the steam will wreak havoc with the adhesive which is used to fuse the suit (causing it to then "bubble). I have also read that you should never iron/press a suit, since that can damage the fabric of the outer suit shell , while also potentially damaging/melting the adhesive used to fuse the suit. So, that basically rules out: dry cleaning (unless absolutely necessary), steaming and ironing...what else is there? How do you keep your suit clean and looking great/wrinkle-free in-between wears if you don't/can't do any of these things? A little help would be appreciated. Am I just supposed to brush it off for 30 seconds and then hang it up to let it "air out" for a day or two? Is that all you guys do in-between wears? Thanks.

The ways you care for a fused suit, half-canvassed suit and fully canvassed suit are basically the same. Brush it off between wearings, hang it up when you are done with it, give it a rest between wearings (i.e. do not wear every day), and press and dry clean only when necessary. The dry cleaning process may not be good for the fusing but one trip to the dry cleaners is not going to destroy your suit. Depending on the suit, it is possible that enough trips to the dry cleaners will end its life, but you really don't have much of a choice. If you dry clean sparingly and don't wear the suit out otherwise, it will still last you for years. If it doesn't, the issue is probably with the quality of the garment overall and not the fact that it was half canvassed vs. fully canvassed.
