The Rock coat is nice, and I'm sure the fabric looks amazing in person, but it has a much higher degree of difficulty. I rather like it in grey with that white sweater. I think if the bottom half were adjusted, it could be great. As is, it's still pretty good. I think we're jaded as an audience, having seen the same SS coats over and over again. If you weren't familiar with SS, and you saw Bene in person, you'd probably think he looked pretty swell. The fabric alone looks really lush and shows up great in that color.

The rock coat looks 10 times better when it's partially buttoned up and it's not being pushed forward (by hands in the pockets). It's a really voluminous coat so it can look overpowering or off if not worn with this in mind. I totally get why it's getting flack on here, but it's a great piece and looks amazing when worn well.

Best shot of the Rock coat I've seen so far:

I have never understood the SF enthusiasm for this coat. It isn't interesting enough to overcome the fact that it usually makes people look a bit dumpy.

as with most schneider, it's about the drape...reminiscent of the double alpaca and incredible when done right. nothing against bene, but his fits with the coat aren't the most well put together and don't really do much to highlight the way the rock coat flows.

I actually tried a version of that jacket a season or two back and returned it swiftly. It's very drapy and doesn't sit well.

i have never really liked much ss outerwear. knits/pants are fantastic, but i don't like hoods so most of the coats are not that appealing to me.

IMO the problem Benes has is proportion. Most of his fits where he wears any sort of mid-length outerwear makes him appear stubby, with extremely short legs. This would improve with shorter outerwear OR much longer outerwear. The in-between peacoat-ish outerwear is not a good look for Benes, IMO.
