Price range for custom wallet?

Hello everyone, I'm looking to get a custom wallet made, something along the lines of this but in regular, natural leather. I was quoted $255 for this from a very skilled and reputable maker, but I see similar wallets, albeit semi-mass produced, from places like Tanner Goods and Corter go for under $100. Is $255 about what such custom work goes for, or should I pass?

Hi there. Natural veg-tan is a fairly straightforward material to source, but the price can change depending on a few things. For example, a natural, bookbinding quality goatskin is going to cost more than a run of the mill cowhide.

Goods like tanner and corter go for under $100 because they use no-frills cowhide, little to no edge finishing, and generally basic construction.

The wallet you linked to perfectly describes the above. For $255 for that wallet in a natural cowhide, I'd say you're paying too much. The edges are untouched and the construction is very basic.
I charge $300 or so for a simple bi-fold and I'd say $255 is just too much for what that is.

Now, assuming the maker can do a better job than the photo you linked, it might very well be a fair price...

Beatrice at April in Paris does excellent work and the prices on her website (may be out of date) are not too far off what you have been quoted:

Your chosen design is very simple - I would question whether you need something made to order, are you not better off looking around for something off the shelf that suits your tastes? It will likely be better quality for the same money (since the design costs are absorbed over many units of production).
